Ixion was thought to be the son of Ares and Perimele. Ixion was a king of Lapith who was to be married to Deioneus's (sometimes referred to as Eioneus in history) daughter Dia (say that three times fast). He promised Deioneus to pay the bridal price set (some of Ixion's famed stallions) but the wedding day came and went and he had not paid. Deioneus then decided to pay himself by stealing horses from Ixion. Ixion learned what happened and was miffed - so he plotted a scheme to get his revenge. He invited his father-in-law to a dinner party and when they were speaking Ixion lead Deioneus over to the hearth where Ixion would then push Deioneus in (other sources say that Ixion created a concealed pit that was covered in a charcoal fire and Deioneus fell into to the fire). Deioneus died and Ixion was exiled for breaking kinslaying. Much later, Zeus saw the outcast king and felt sorry for him - in turn, he invited Ixion to Olympus. But soon Zeus came to regret his decision - Ixion would begin flirting with Hera and thus spiting his host. Zeus decided to trick him by shaping a cloud into Hera - this cloud became Nephele. Ixion, being fooled by the cloud and lead on by Zeus, had sex with the Hera look alike. In this union, the first centaurs were created (Ixion is referred to as Centaurus after this). After this Ixion's visit was over, he went back amongst the mortals and he spread word that he had slept with Hera. Zeus then punished the man to eternity spent on a spinning, burning wheel. IN MY OPINION Ixion represents a) where you may not be trustworthy, b) where you fall through on your promises, c) where you betray people to extremes, d) where your creations have a stereotype, and/or e) where karma catches up with you.
i encourage you to look into the aspects of ixion along with the sign, degree, and house placement. for the more advanced astrologers, take a look at the persona chart of ixion AND/OR add the other characters involved to see how they support or impede ixion!
