This page cracked me up so I had to try typesetting for it (I forgot... it's so hard to squeeze horizontal text into a vertical exclamation...)
In today's radio talk show, the fathers in Tales discuss what makes one a father and notice one seat is still empty...

Asbel & Hubert's deceased uncle??
*text is machine translated from the Tales of Graces f perfect guide
[Text ID: Adolf [Name] Aston's older brother and Asbel's uncle. Because of his free-spirited personality, he was deemed unqualified to inherit the lordship, and was forced to fight with his younger brother Aston for the headship of the family. Soon after, he was chased out by Lhant and died of heartbreak. The circumstances of this incident would later have a major influence on Aston when thinking about the future of his sons.]
So apparently Aston had an older brother who lost his right to lordship due to his carefree attitude. Curious whether this "fight" mentioned was actual combat or just political arguments, but either way it seems Aston won and his brother was chased out of Lhant and died shortly after. I'm assuming this story exists to explain why Aston decided to send Hubert away, that he was trying to prevent another inheritance struggle like he had apparently gone through that lost him a family member, but, uh. He didn't. Hubert ended up doing the EXACT same thing to Asbel.
Maybe if Aston ever TALKED about his dead brother his kids would get why this was a serious issue to him, instead of getting angry and running away/assuming they weren't needed or wanted anymore?
Wow, I really hate Aston, what kinda asshole dad do you have to be to tell your 11 year old son “Yeah, it’s your fault that girl died, also I gave your little brother away to another family and you’re never gonna see him again.”

Ah, let's see... Aside from obvious plot points, he's mentioned in the childhood arc, by Richard in the main arc, and during a few side events that involve Aston.
Apparently Aston (and Dalen's father) saved his life and fought by his side on numerous occasions. Ferdinand then gave Dalen's father a title and Aston the sword Excalibur (he tried to give him the ring, too, but Aston wouldn't take it, so it was left in the royal family's hands.) There's also a scene with Archduke Cedric and Aston where Aston makes it clear that he'll never betray the king. (I kind of joked about the parallels between Aston and Asbel's desire to protect Ferdinand and Richard on this post a while ago.)
I don't know if Aston and Ferdinand were friends, per se, but there definitely seems to be a level of duty/trust there which even Kerri comments on. And Ferdinand must have believed in Aston enough to send Richard to Lhant in the first place, right? :V
But as far as anything about Ferdinand's personality or appearance? No, nothing comes to mind. The most we get is a really vague sense about his political policies. And that in the drama CDs he was killed right in front of Richard. ><;;
There might be something about him in the novels, but I don't really know much about those.
