Really, they should have known Ethan would pull something like this; that after the whole Halloween debacle, he’d summon the one thing that could distract Rupert like no other. And that he’d unleash it upon Sunnydale with a wrath unlike any other.

It had been building for days -- magick crackling through the air, sending off electric sparks nearly undetectable except for those who knew how to detect such things. Most wouldn’t notice until the weirdness set in. Beginning with the mist. Dark purple in color, rolling through the streets.

After it came the forest. Sunnydale had woods, yes. But not like this. These were forests like...well, like something out of a fairytale. Where wolves howled and fairy lights danced between the trees. 

Chaos magick. Same as on Halloween. But instead of altering people, this was altering the town. Creating a setting. But for what? And by whom?

That became clear enough on the fourth night. The night Buffy and the Scoobies had finally decided to enter the woods. See what lie at it’s epicenter. That night, a knock came to Giles’s door. And on the other side...

“Hi, Daddy...” She wasn’t the same girl he had left behind in England. Wasn’t even the same girl he had visited at Christmas the year before. There was magick swirling about her. Dark magick. Chaotic magick. A signature of the Raynes. Of course. With him gone, Ethan and Lilith had sunk their claws in but good. Warped her.

Which would explain the darkness lurking behind her eyes...

a shift in the force - a light extinguished - the familiar, comforting connection severed. anakin's whole body runs cold, every nerve alive and screaming at him to move. to do something. 

obi-wan. not obi-wan. anyone but obi-wan. it's that instant that the hero with no fear is overcome with exactly that. he is nothing now, only a memory of a boy with fading warmth in his arms and a newly formed hole in his chest. 

" commander- " he moves without realising, his voice sounding very far away. they were supposed to return together- " where is obi-wan?? "

"they are," jesse replies without even looking up from where he's busy stitching a tear in his coat. the fire light in front of him just enough to let him do it without worrying about stabbing himself too bad. and the light creates shadows in the trees off to the side of them. a moving, living shadow that makes an already frightening scene all the worse.

fire might be a sign of safety out here but it also let you know all the places the light wasn't touching.

"ain't people though, if that's what's got you all riled up." though for some people that might be preferable, as it stands jesse finds it easier to look into the trees and know there's something else out there. "sides, there's not enough meat on your bones for them to bother with." he smirks at jack before returning to his work.
