Introductions
Hello! This is UtahGent.
Introductions can be weird, and a little off-putting when you don’t know what you want to put out into the world, so why not share with you a few of the ways I identify myself, so there’s no question who I am.
Let’s start with my chosen pronouns— He/Him/His/Il/Él In terms of my gender identification, I do identify as male. It is my biological gender and my true gender. And I included the French and Spanish pronouns as a subtle flex that I am multilingual.
I am a bisexual. 💖💜💙 A significant portion of my personal journey has dealt primarily with coming to terms with my own sexuality. Understandably it was a bit of a confusing process and one that required me to learn to be okay with my own sexuality before I could invite others in to support me in that decision. Everyone’s journey is different and valid. I will say that while I am attracted to the fairer sex, I am happier with men. I tend to be more attracted to men physically.
I also identify as Queer. Traditional gender roles seem so limiting to my own self-expression. There are masculine parts of me (🏉🚴🏽♂️🦁) along with feminine, or what some would identify as queer (🦄✨🌈). All of which exist within my personality.
I am a Mormon. Culturally. While I don’t consider myself to be an active member of the Church, I do still identify with some of the sect’s basic teachings. My upbringing as a Mormon has dramatically influenced who I am as a person, and I wouldn’t change that for the world. While there are parts of the Church that I have struggled with, the Gospel in it’s purest form is something that still informs my personal values system. I am a Christian. While it should go without saying, it’s essential to be clear that I believe in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. I also believe that we are created in the image of God, and He makes no mistakes with any of us. I guess you could say I’m a “Kind Christian.” I’m one who believes in the good in humanity and sees a difference between a life of over-indulgence and one of spiritual abundance.
I am an Astrologer. If I could make it any weirder, I would, but this is just who I choose to be! Astrology is not a belief system but a vehicle that can be applied to many belief systems. There is any number of different types of religious astrologers, including agnostic, Buddhist, Jewish, and yes, even Christian astrologers. Astrology long predates the three major religious systems and has been a significant part of society at different points in history. Before human civilization had recorded history, they were mapping the heavens and attributing certain aspects of life to their cyclical movement. Astrology is an essential part of my personal spirituality and connects me to God in a very real way. It also can connect me to those who have come before me. In a birth chart, there are indications of the heritage we all inherit, and I feel a kinship to those people, and the stars help to connect me to them. I am a Musician. I’ve studied music for well over two decades. Now I am an avid listener and devoted arts, advocate. While I believe we need to teach all our students the power of STEM, but without the influence of the Arts, we lose our sense of wonder and innovation. Every week I share a classical music playlist, which I format like a concert program. They are usually themed, and I included various artists and composers. I also share a Daily Listeners playlist everyday of music and podcasts that I enjoy listening to.
I consider myself a Political Theorist. Political Science has always been one of my favorite subjects. As I am not cut-throat enough to make it in the sphere, I avoid a lot of political posting, unless I’m on Twitter. I see myself as a moderate—while I tend to be very socially progressive, fiscally, and internationally I can come across as being very conservative.
I love history! I’m a big ole history buff. History is what feeds my passion for political science. I will often say that we need to look at things historically to understand why we are where we are. There are also a lot of warning signs in history, because like it or not, history has a tendency to repeat itself.
I am a Reader. If there isn’t a book in my bag, there’s something wrong with me that day! Not true, I’ve started to do a lot of reading on my iPad. But I try to read between five and six books a month. While classic literature and historical fiction are my favorite genres, I also love a light-hearted RomCom novel. I also love to read memoirs of people I admire and respect. The only genres I really avoid are horror, trashy romance, and most thrillers.
Everything else you’re gonna learn about me. I’m going to start utilizing this platform more to share some of my thoughts, things that I might not be ready to share on my more well-traveled platforms.
I do have a blog and website for anyone who would like to read and follow me there, it’s utahgent.com, and of course, you can follow me on every major platform at @UtahGent or my astrology accounts as well @QueerAstroGent.
Until tomorrow, wishing you peace and love. 🖤
