A harp concert is set to take place at the Asylum Chapel in Caroline Gardens.

It will be performed by three singer-songwriters who are setting out to “destroy the perception that the harp is played by angels” and offer an evening of unusual yet accessible acoustic delights.

Elly McCabe, daughter of ex-Verve guitarist Nick McCabe, describes her sound as “Tori Amos meets Tim Burton”. Her songs, a mix of Celtic-style harp and soaring vocals, are heavily influenced by The Cure and Joanna Newsom.

Julia Mascetti is a concert harpist from Essex. Classically trained, she began covering heavy metal songs on her harp. Her song-writing style is dark pop with folk influences, and a hint of gothic melodrama. 

Julia Gray is a London-based singer-songwriter. Her musical influences include Tom Waits, Kate Bush, Blossom Dearie and Joni Mitchell. She draws inspiration from contemporary and classical cultures and her second album is out this month.

The concert takes place on June 20, and doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Tickets cost £6 (including booking fee) in advance from harpicide.eventbrite.co.uk or £8 on the door, and include a complimentary drink with an optional donation.
