ADAM HEDLUND is a 15 year old PATIENT in the PSYCHIATRIC WARD. He has been diagnosed with DISSOCIATIVE IDENTITY DISORDER and looks a lot like Froy Guiterrez . 

MAYBE THEY’RE HIDING… 

Adam was one beloved child out of two, born into a home full of happiness and love. Twins; not one less loved than the other. Adam and his brother were close, inevitably – they shared clothing, toys, they even shared personalities. Two little boys, inseparable from one another and so incredibly similar, that even their own father would often confuse them. Despite their similarities, their mother could see the difference – she could see that Samuel was more independent, whilst Adam relied more on the company around him. At the age of eight when they had begun to grow into their own personalities, Adam was still dependent on Samuel. He needed to know that despite his rank in the food chain, his brother would always be there and that, he was guaranteed. Samuel was there until he could no longer be… 

 WE HOPE THEY ARE PLAYING A GAME… 

A horrific accident whilst on their way home from the supermarket, Samuel and his father were crushed by a truck who had failed to stop at a set of red lights. His mother had lost her family and Adam had lost his best friend; the only person who understood him… Samuel had been torn away from him and there was nothing he could do but embrace the ghost that he had left behind. As things spiralled downward for the two Hedlund’s that were still breathing, Adam grew lonely. Whilst his mother detached herself from any positive emotions and grew depressed, she found herself expressing her loneliness in her very own way. Men would come and go, the house had become a mess and at the young age of eight, Adam had been neglected. Whilst his mother had never laid a hand on him, the officials would have deemed it as abuse. 

BUT THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING… 

Becoming more estranged as the years went on, Adam had shrunk into somebody so timid and shy… He needed somebody else who could protect him; somebody who would not take the bullying and taunting that he faced as he grew into a young teenager. It was a strange thing, at the age of ten to create an imaginary friend but that was exactly what Adam had done. A more aggressive and protective version of himself shadowed behind the boy and mostly came into play when his vulnerabilities had been exposed. Having an imaginary friend, meant that Adam felt less lonely but after he had started high school and it became apparent that his ‘friend’ was more of an alter ego, his teachers became concerned. All it took was one single ‘explosion’ at a boy who had bullied him throughout elementary school, for them to wake up and see that Adam had been experiencing more than just the loss of his brother and father, but the ambiguous loss of his mother too. Child Protective Services became involved, the authorities became involved and later, the doctors did too. Adam was found to be suffering a disorder that was not seen often and the decision was made that Brielle Institute was the best place to receive help.

Unfortunately, Adam is TAKEN!

Patrick Ian Smith | 22 years old | Manic Depressive, Drug Addiction | FC: Ezra Miller | OPEN

If one thing is certain, Patrick always loved music. This passion paid off when at the age of 19, he was skyrocketed into stardom. Thus began his mental breakdown. Patrick had been diagnosed bipolar but didn’t let it get to him. He quickly became a sort of teen heart throb, and eventually married a supermodel at twenty. Patrick was, on the surface, happy. But, underneath the glamor of rock and roll was a beast just waiting to rear its ugly head. One night, the opportunity arrived. Patrick had been under the influence of several drugs as well as copious amounts of stress. He became completely delusional, believing that he was being watched by the government. He destroyed seven mailboxes, two squad cars, and a 2.5 million dollar statue. It was then that his wife decided she could no longer put up with his constant mood swings, and shipped him off to Pineridge with divorce papers.

Patrick absolutely hates being in the asylum. The music program is limited, and because of his ‘incident’, he was not allowed to bring any of his guitars with him. To make matters worse, he’s had an incredibly hard time convincing people that he’s more than just a celebrity. He avoids the women’s wings in order to keep from being bombarded by fans. He has attempted suicide three times since his arrival and is on constant watch.

Arla Anderson | 24 years old | Anorexia B/P, Hyperthymesia | FC: Antonia Campbell-Hughes | OPEN

As a young woman growing up in a small Mormon sect, there was a lot of pressure to be desirable. Unfortunately, Arla had little to no interest in the courting that the other growing girls in her town did. She was an extremely intellectual child and excelled in school. Her mother, however, didn’t want a husbandless daughter, and removed Arla from school at the tender age of 15, putting her on a crash course diet. Eventually, the studious girl began to obsess over every solitary calorie, purging any excess. When her weight dropped dangerously low, she suffered a heart attack at 19. The hospital doctor diagnosed her not only with anorexia binge/purge type but with Hyperthymesia. Those with this memory disorder find it impossible to forget anything from their autobiographical history. 

After years of the strain of her eating disorder and the constant flood of memories, at the suggestion of the doctors who saved her life, she checked herself into Pineridge. Now at the institution, she finds comfort in the surplus of reading material. Her mind still records every detail of every moment, but she’s learning to cope. Her eating habits, however, have only worsened. She is no longer in contact with her family.
