Chile and Its Scientists Protest Research on Tiny Mummy

The Chilean government said it would start an inquiry into whether the remains of a tiny baby girl were illegally exhumed and smuggled out of the country.

15 years ago, the “Atacama Alien” made its debut. While supposedly found in the Atacama Desert, now Chilean authorities are arguing that the remains were illegally exhumed, stolen and sold. They argue that recent research on the cadaver’s DNA was crude and unethical.
