This time not a commission, but a project for our own studio; a dress based on the wardrobe of the last empress of Rusia; Alexandra Fjodorovna. The lush, beautiful elaborate ornaments on the dresses are almost too much but oh so lovely. Combined with gorgeous fabrics was enough to draw our attention and inspire us greatly. The almost informal atmosphere at the palace, like making both portraits but also candid pictures, much like we do today, fascinated us very much. Most of you will know that this family is known for the very unfortunate ending of their lives on july 17, 1918 as a result of the Russian Revolution of 1917. Also the five children’s lives were taken, meaning that five lives were finished before they were even really starting. That made us think. After doing research we made this design, this costume is a tribute to both the lives that have ended and fashion of that time. We would like to take you on journey of the design of this dress! So in the upcoming days, we will share different details of the dress and the story behind it.
