When a Business Decides to Sponsor You
This is certainly an exciting moment of your fundraising career. A business has decided to sponsor you on certain conditions. Maybe they will write you the check later, or maybe they help you out now expecting you to fulfill your side of the bargain in the months to come. Regardless, fulfilling what they expect you to should become quite a priority.
Make sure you thank them very much and talk about if they do or do not want flyers or posters of your sponsorship hanging around the business. You should always inquire to do so because that means more people will get to see your cause. Ask if you could put brochures or flyers laying at their desk or on their bulletin so other people could pick them up doing their errands, but don't get pushy.
In the following months, make it a priority to make them feel great about sponsoring you. Business owners talk, a lot, so you want to be in that discussion when they do. It could potentially lead to a sponsorship that wasn't even on your potential sponsorship list. Keep in contact with your sponsoring person at least once a month to ask if there is anything else you can do for them and what you have done so far, difficulties, questions, comments, concerns, ect.
Beyond that, keep inquiring for other sponsors because you will most likely need it. Also, let a friend know what you are up to. If you have a friend, you could get sponsored as a group and thus have twice the number of sponsors.
