So fucking good.
AHHHHHHH!! (does this mean we get a good quality video??)
Kerry Ellis - Anthems
So I eventually got around to buying Kerry Ellis' album 'Anthems' and have to say I was completely blown away. I've always loved her and known she has an incredible voice but the variety and sheer talent in this album really took me by surprise (of course, it also helps that it was produced by and features one of my all-time heroes - Brian May). The first track, 'Dangerland' is just amazing. It is very, what I'd like to call, 'fantasy prog-rock' - much like something I would expect to find on an Avantasia album. Needless to say I am desperate to cover this song. Obviously her amazing 'Wicked In Rock' cover of 'Defying Gravity' is also on there (another cover for me I think!) which again is fabulous. Also, I found she had also covered one of my favourite ever Queen songs - 'Save Me'. It's a little more musical theatre than a rock song but that's exactly what I love about it. She has made it her own and it works - very well! The album ends with one of my all-time favourite songs - 'No One But You'. I love the original, of course, but when I heard Kerry's version on the soundtrack to 'We Will Rock You' it literally took my breath away. I could not tell you how many times I have listened to that song and it still never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Written by Roger & Brian for Freddie, it embodies everything that he was and the way Kerry sings it just amplifies all it is. For about a year, my car CD had been 'We Will Rock You' and then Katy Perry had it for around 6 months with 'Teenage Dream'. Needless to say it will now be Kerry Ellis for the forseeable future. I highly recommend this album to everyone, especially those with a wide taste in music.
