ahh thank you!! there's something magical about the top gun movies, that i've always really appreciated, and i am so pleased that people really seem to be enjoying the story i've spun around it!

as for what's next... well i've got quite a few things planned out at the moment, so i hope it continues to please!

Do Lily and James have core aspects to their characterisations that you aim to demonstrate in all your writing?

For starters, I'm going to link to my earlier headcanons post because I've described some of that there. Also:

James is good. This is super important to me. Even if he can be a dick, he is genuinely good to his core. He may be misguided but his heart is in the right place. He values fairness and equality, he loves fiercely and wholly, he is loyal, helpful and supportive. Even his bullying is a direct result of that; he bullies those who do not align with his values, those who he thinks make the world an ugly place. This is something I always make a point of showing in all my fics and why I love writing him through the years and showing his growth. I will have no James bashing in this house!

James is smart. I am so glad those old headcanons where Remus was the smart one of their group while James and Sirius were complete morons are not prevalent in Jily fic anymore (though I see them too often in incorrect quotes and stuff for my liking). In fact, not only is he smart, he is probably too smart for his own good. That, too, always shines through in my fics. Even when he finds himself disadvantaged/ignorant/misguided, he is capable enough to figure things out and come out the winning side. (Including when he makes a fool of himself in front of Lily, lol!)

Lily is proud. Even when she has to apologize or take the first step, she always does it in a dignified way. I love writing her as someone who has to overcome her ego in order to get with James - it's not fun if she's a perfect woman who just waits until James is good enough for her to deign to get with him. Seeing through his good side also involves admitting to herself things she was too proud to see.

I think this is the basic stuff I always make sure to point out - especially the James stuff, because James is the one who gets the most hate of the two in the wider fandom and so I always strive for a well-rounded and accurate portrayal, which emphasizes the two main reasons I've fallen in love with him. :)

tfw you can Do Social Things because your brain is like a computer and is really really good at making fast connections so you can see a certain facial expression or experience a certain social situation and know what to do because it's like an equation to you, but this fact undermines your own assurance that you're definitely autistic even after receiving a diagnosis because the things that autism makes difficult for people aren't as difficult for you - (can I be tagged as athena?)
