@atheologist okay okay okay. The actor who plays Ed Kemper is amazing and terrifying. How the hell did he move that fast??? And Jonathan Groff is amazing. And it was amazing. Just the entire last scene before they go back to BTK? I can’t. Amazing.

But what is your opinion of banana bread?
It’s banana cake. I’ve never seen it come out looking or tasting at all like BREAD.

I'm kinda pissed, because it's been so sunny and beautiful...except Sunday when I'm getting engagement photos taken. Of course.
Okay but MAZEL TOOOOOOOOV!!!!!!

Yeah, I know. That was meant to be a rhetorical question, because rather than kill us, they’ll “let” us leave.
oh yeah i know i just wanted to explain it for anyone who might not know what they meant by that chant

Technically, Ashkenazim refer to them as "movements," but assimilation is a hell of a thing.
[Context]
You're right. "Branches" are similarly common, and less commonly "divisions" — but none of them (whether "movements," "branches," or "divisions") are wrong, as far as I know. Employing xian terminology ("denominations," "non denominational," etc) into Judaism is incorrect, but at the same time I also understand that some people may not be as aware of that, so it's important to be kind in our interpretations (in that case it was clear that anon was not ill-intentioned).
However: it could very well be someone's one-way ticket to a Bad experience if they come off as xians in a Sephardic esnoga, because of attempts by evangelical xians (pretending to be Jewish) to come and convert us, and whatnot. Or: they promise they're not there to convert us, only to practice ~Jesus' religion and be more connected to the religion~ (in my old esnoga this got a bunch of evangelicals kicked out and banned from returning).
That's why I referred specifically about using xian terminology when coming to our esnogas (in that case, "non denominational"). It's not that I don't think that using proper terminology is irrelevant, it's that in that scenario there was something that caused more concern. Does that make more sense?

Oh, you're preaching to the choir here. I tried to explain to him that Trump isn't actually a good businessman, but there's only so much you can say while in line at the library.
Oof. Yeah, you have to pick your battles.
@atheologist replied to your post “brainstatic: If you live in New York especially, please vote for...”
I was talking about the election with a classmate today (we were on campus studying) and some random guy behind us overheard and announced that Trump was going to win. Because he's "such a good businessman" apparently. Ugh.
He’s NOT though. Had he just invented his inheritance in stocks, he would have made more money. Everyone knowing your name is not the same as being a good businessman. (Can you tell I’ve had this argument multiple times with multiple people?)
And even if he was a phenomenal businessman, that doesn’t translate one-to-one into effective governing. For example, if you’re in business, you can always leave the table knowing you can make a deal with another company that does the same thing. In government? What are you going to do if you can’t negotiate with Russia? Leave? Try to negotiate with the other Russia? ????!!!!????
@atheologist replied to your post “Before the debate, I thought that maybe Trump would be more...”
I honestly thought he was drugged when he started. But he revved up to his awful, childish self.
One thing (the only thing) I’ll say about and defend Donald Trump from is that he is straight edge (so to speak) and sober. He doesn’t drink or do drugs because his brother passed away at a ridiculously young age (early 40s) from alcoholism-related issues. That’s all him; no drugs or drink involved.
