Sorry for the storm of atheism posts I've reblogged he past couple days. Felt like such a hypocrite since I went to church with my family this past sunday. All I could do was sit there catching all the contradictions and lies within the readings and sermon. My mom would glance at me and I could feel her disappointment in my choice to not practice catholicism. She still doesn't know I have become a full atheist - she thinks I'm agnostic. I usually go with them to church because we have dinner together afterwards.*shrug* I do it for the food & family bonding.
Thinking that we’re more than simply an advanced species of mammal is the same way of thinking that kept us thinking that the Earth was the centre of the universe. We are a lot less significant but a lot more powerful than our religions would have us believe. We do have the ability to determine right from wrong without an instruction book. We will be held responsible if we do the wrong thing, but not at the end of our life with only the possibility of an eternity of pleasure or eternity in hell, but by the fruits of our own actions! If we go around spreading hate, then earth will be a more hateful place, if we fuck up our environment then we will have a fucked up environment! Religion takes away that responsibility, it makes us passive to the real evil in the world because we believe if we say our prayers every night when this world goes to shit we won’t have to worry, Jesus will come get us and we’ll just go to heaven and it’ll all be sunshine and rainbows.
