I think it’s Dany too. I just can’t figure out why Mel is so obsessed that Stannis is AA

I think it’s probably the only person that she knows that kinda fits the prophecy? And could realistically be a leader in that sense? I don’t know, in the show I always thought she was just too damn sure of her instinct and didn’t consider she might be wrong until she clearly was (but I mean the show is no real testament to the Azor Ahai prophecy so meh)

Anyway, I’m not sure I think it’s Dany, because that passage was so perfectly hinting towards her that it makes me suspicious.. Like, george wrote it knowing that we would connect those dots based on the info we have (like bringing dragons to life from stone... born from smoke and salt.. mel even mentions Dragonstone which is where dany was born..)... I don’t know, I don’t trust it... It sounds too obvious almost? That’s just based on that little bit though... There might me other clues later on that hint to completely different directions so it could still be Dany..  as I understand most people think it’s Jon so clearly there’s room for george to still pull a twist... Not to mention we will probably never know anyway lol

Unsullied training is so vile and horrible. They’re not even allowed a name. No child should have to go through that. Mormont is essentially trying to justify evil by saying it’s a necessary evil. That’s the mentality of a slaver

The role of the Jorah is precisely that of advice that is immoral but practical. Dany's conflict is just there she condemns immorality but appreciates their practicality and so she has to know how to reconcile these two sides.

I absolutely agree that the Unsullied should never even exist and I don’t doubt for one minute that Jorah is probably advocating for this type of training to keep going (as you say, justifying evil by saying it’s necessary). But I can appreciate the ethical paradox that arises from the specific situation, because at this point in the story employing them on the one hand means reinforcing the abuse they have suffered (and have been forced to perpetrate during their training) and as an extension the system that put it in place, but on the other it could mean spreading less violence in the future (given that for these specific soldiers, what they have suffered in the past cannot be erased), which is what she says she wants to avoid. It’s an ethically loaded alternative (one that should never have existed in the first place), it’s like playing math with human lives, but that’s probably the point. We are probably supposed to keep interrogating ourselves on the moral implications of a choice, while the character in the story has to take it (I assume she is going to do the same as in the show, employ them but at least liberate them so they can choose whether to follow her or not?). I feel like it’s safe to say (at least for now) that she would never allow this training in the first place in order to strategically minimize uncontrolled brutality in the future (which is what Jorah would probably advise her to do), and that’s what makes her dilemma different from Jorah’s mindset. She wouldn’t put the system in place, but now that it has been done, she has to struggle with the notion that the “less violent solution” could be the one that reinforces it.

Karstark is insane! His sons were begging for the honor to protect the Young Wolf. They knew what they were getting into. Karstark is tarnishing their memory and his house. People are not going to remember his sons’ heroism but the murder of two young squires

The show really annoyed me. Robb and Cat fight sometimes but at the end of the day they still love each other.

Also I just realized that the way they changed the order of events really shifts the blame more on Cat and serves to make her less sympathetic... Not only she frees Jaime before she gets the news of Bran and Rickon’s deaths (which is basically the event that makes her take the decision), so her emotional state in doing that is somewhat less understandable... But in the show Robb marries Talisa after Cat’s treason, so it almost feels like everything wrong started with her actions alone. Like, don’t get me wrong, freeing Jaime is one of the main puzzle pieces for the RW, but it’s not the only one, and it’s not even the first/initiating one... Robb marries Jeyne losing the Freys while Edmure doesn’t let the Lannister past Riverrun (although I personally put the blame for that on Robb and Brynden) preventing Stannis to win over KL while Cat frees Jaime losing an important bargaining element against the Lannisters, Karstark then kills the Lannisters captives and promises his daughter hand to anyone who will kill Jaime, Robb has to then kill him to keep all Stark captives under the Lannisters from retaliation and so on... In the show it kinda feels like it all started from Cat alone..

Plus - as you said - both Cat and Robb are kinder to each other in the books.. They try to understand each other reasons... In the show they just... throw the blame at each other like a boiling potato

Show timeline is bad. Bran and Rickon’s death caused huge emotional and political impacts in the story. Robb was so emotional devastated he slept with Jeyne Westerling and felt honored bound to marry her. Cat was so emotional devastated she released Jaime because she wanted to be united with her remaining children. Really the book did a better job with the human emotional side

That chapter is so heartbreaking. Especially Jaime thinking his life is over without a sword hand. His whole identity was being a knight so now that it’s gone he thinks there’s nothing worth living for. I didn’t like Jaime especially what he did to Bran but I was so sad for him. I was actually cheering for him to continue living for Cersei and Tyrion.

Yes, I feel like even if you don’t like him that moment is just really hard to read... I wonder for people who read the books first, what did they think when they came up to this bit, if they felt a little bit more sympathetic towards Jaime (even though the “big reveal” comes later). I feel like my reading is a little bit biased because I’ve seen the show and I’ve already grown to love him, so reading his thoughts in his chapter makes me really emotional, I wonder if things would have been different if I read it without knowing about his development already

Missandei is so sweet and smart in the books. When I saw her in the show for the first time I almost fell out of my seat

Yup. Aged up to be able to add a love story and some sex is my guess

I knew she was somewhat younger, but I imagined her to be like the same age as Dany?? I’m gonna have to really force my brain into seeing her as a nine year old.... As for why they did it, I guess they also wanted to create a friendship for Dany, so maybe keeping Missandei as a child would have defeated that purpose? But yeah they def also took the chance to introduce the romance with Grey Worm (I mean I shipped them in the show, they were quite cute and one of the few relationships who seemed healthy so it is what it is...)
