Ok so Into the Woods. What did you think about the way they handled the Second Act with the time compression. And what did you think of the fact that Rapunzel lived? Because I felt like it kind of sucked a lot of the emotion out of Witch's Lament (and some of her later lines like "Tell that to a wolf's mother). And what did you think about them cutting Maybe They're Really Magic and Agony (reprise) and No More?
I was a little disappointed with how fast they rushed through the second act, yeah, but it always seemed shorter in the show anyways and if you're taking out 2-3 songs (Act II Prologue [So Happy], Agony Reprise, and No More) that's definitely going to cut it down even more.
Though my goodness did I love how (and no clue if it was intentional or not) Chris Pine sort of emulated some of the Wolf's moves/fluidity from Hello Little Girl in Anything Can Happen In The Woods. It was a nice callback to how the roles of the Wolf and Cinderella's Prince (at least in the OBC) are usually played by the same person.
Rapunzel living was... well, at the very least understandable from Disney's standpoint. Tangled is still a fairly popular and recent movie so I can get not wanting to kill off a version of a character that's still very prevalent in merchandising/the parks/kid's minds (though my goodness it would've been fun to see kids asking Rapunzel how she survived being stepped on by the Giantess- maybe she'd say they're cousins or something?). I think there is still an emotional impact, but a slightly smaller one. Parents are going to miss their kids no matter what- and especially when they leave never to make contact again (and...y'know rightfully so in this case though it's not like she'd really get a chance). She's still loosing Rapunzel, just not to death. I guess.
If only for the line "If the end is right, it justifies the beans!" did I miss Maybe They're Really Magic. It's a nice song, but they did cut several smaller ones- I'll See You Soon Again also didn't make the cut apart from an instrumental.
The Agony reprise wouldn't have really fit with Rapunzel and her Prince seemingly riding off into the sunset towards happier and hopefully giant-less life in another kingdom perhaps. I also noticed that they cut Rapunzel's twins but yeah. Whatever did happen to them in the original once their mother got stepped on and their father ran off with Sleeping Beauty? Hmm...
No More getting cut was the biggest puzzler for me... In the Q&A livestream that Yahoo did after one of the screenings, they said that they felt as if it wasn't really fitting but I really think it would have gone very nicely. Especially since they emphasized the whole "You're becoming your father" bit with the Baker. Maybe it's because they cut the One/Two Midnight(s) Gone songs? I think it would've worked even without the Mysterious Man being a part of the first act since the Baker's dad showing up for those few seconds was sort of "eh" without the song. Oh well.
I know I've said it before but you're super hella rad and you seem super hella nice and I hope your day/month/life is super hella great
aww thank you friend
Hey I'm writing a soulmates AU for Carmilla and I really love all your headcanon stuff and the Cupid AU and I was wondering if you'd be ok if I made Laura a Cupid and Danny a tree spirit who does the plant grow-y thing. I'd give you credit for the inspiration of course if I ever actually posted it. And I totally understand if you don't want me to use it.
oh man you go right ahead that's awesome!!!
go for it buddy you have free range to take those headcanons and run with them!!!
For the who puts peeps in the microwave, etc. Danny x Carmilla
okay when i said any ship i guess i didn't mean any ship because i'm sorry I CAN'T THINK OF THEM TOGETHER I'M SORRY
Um so I watched all fifteen episodes of carmilla last night and holy shit it's so great. I cannot wait for more!
Awesome! I'm super glad that you're enjoying it. :)
Hi. I just wanted to say that I really really like you're blog. I really love that you don't just irrationally hate Moffat, and you do such a good job defending him and his characters in such an eloquent way. It's nice to be reminded that not the entire fandom is made of irrationally angry people. Also you like (know about) Into the Woods which was literally my childhood, so that makes me so happy. Anyway, you're hella rad and I love your blog.
Ahhh, thank you very much! Nice to know that I'm doing a good job, I guess, since sometimes I feel like I'm just repeating myself because people are just...unwilling to get why something isn't so or why we need to not judge characters based on some small bio written by the PR/promotional people. I wish more people could just take a moment to pause and think.
And yes, LOVE INTO THE WOODS! Hoping for a trailer very, very soon :D
