Who wants the hot gossip? :O
A nearby jewelry business closed their doors at the beginning of the new year and have *vanished* with customer's jewelry and new 24K pure gold (and other easily flippable supplies) bought with bad checks.
K D Creations was the name of the business. They operated out of the jewelry center in Chicago (5 S Wabash) for many years.
We heard from a client of ours that split the work between us and them that as of last week 19 pieces of customer's jewelry have not been returned. That stuff is long gone at this point. Probably sold for scrap.
Our gold supplier told us they took a large amount of gold and gave them a check to an empty account.
I hadn't heard great things about the Atilano brothers before, but I never thought they'd go scorched earth on everyone. Especially for how little they got out of it. The client who had 19 repairs stolen said (though probably to save face) that none of the pieces were super valuable. No big diamonds. So it's not like they escaped with a million dollar emerald, and considering the jewelry was broken or damaged they probably couldn't get much from it.
We did hear a rumor in December, from people who go to the building, that they were selling equipment. Essential stuff. Ultrasonic cleaners, steamers, stuff like that. We didn't know at the time our client gave them work or we might have warned them the end was near and to get their stuff.
