So let’s just say I got a quick idea and then went way overboard. The result being this SU/ATLA AU, or half-crossover, or fusion of some variety! I’m positive that I’m not the first one to do this, but still wanted to try my hand at it without any cross-contamination. I haven’t gone seeking out anybody else’s versions yet, apologies if I’m stepping on any toes but I hope my take is welcome here!! You can tell I had a lot of fun with this, I’ll explain the basis for anyone who’s interested/confused.
This started from my love of both series but isn’t a true crossover either, more like The Last Airbender-flavoured Steven Universe. The characters are all from SU, sticking to their original personalities but with deviations arising in their backstories (and slight clothing redesign to match). But before anyone asks, they are not meant to directly replacing any single ATLA character!
While it’s fun to draw certain parallels--which is pretty much the whole point of this--it’s clear that there is no perfect equivalent here. If we go any further beyond this scene the SU characters would end up acting very different than the originals, stepping out of some roles and straying into others.
So this is how I imagine Steven and the rest would act if they appeared in a plot similar to The Last Airbender, but with some wonky worldbuilding that lands somewhere between the two.... In which I may have gone much deeper than I intended. To be clear, this isn’t some full-fledged AU, just an idea on the side! For now I’ll keep running with it between other things, but let me know if you have any thoughts in the meantime :)
