Hi Mark! I have a question about dendrobates tinctorius and I have yet to find the answer on my own. My university has several dyeing dart frogs on display, and I've noticed that especially when they are poised to hop, sometimes they will rapidly wiggle their middle toe on their back legs for a few moments. None of my professors seemed to know what that behavior might be linked to. Do you have any ideas?
I HAVE NOTICED THIS TOO. Actually I noticed it in some rather large toads of a species I cannot now recall. But they were constantly wiggling their toes. Then I started paying attention, and lo and behold, there are tooonnes of frogs that do it. I have no explanation for this, but I am glad I am not the only one noticing it! I thought maybe it is subtle signalling… but it could also be just a weird neural misfire. But it would be strange for one to be so consistent across the batrachia. So I have no idea.

have you ever seen Good Eats? the one with alton brown. he teaches cooking in a really scientific way and it's easier to understand
good eats is a fun one to watch
i dont watch it often but binge watching episodes of it basically became my christmas ritual recently aha
for the fun autism asks: F L A P
XD
(F) Are you a Quiet Autistic or a Loud Autistic?(From a previous ask) Mostly… loud. I’m a major infodumper. I used to get extra loud when excited but I’ve got more of a handle on it now. If I’m comfortable around someone, I talk a lot.
An addendum though, I am pretty shy when it comes to strangers.(L) What do you call raptor/kitty/t-rex hands?
Raptor hands. I think I used to call them T. rex hands but raptor hands seems more common in the circles I move in. ... Specifically I’d say they’re Jurassic Park Raptor Hands since real velociraptor’s wrists don’t bend that way, haha. (They have wrists like birds, with “palms” facing inward rather than downward.)(A) Do you have any autistic friends? What are your favourite things to do together?I do! And relatives. Usually indulging in some special interests together, especially watching TV, fandom (cons, etc.), or art. I also really got along with my autistic students when I was teaching therapeutic riding, because we’d infodump back and forth and share sp.in. stuff. (P) What’s the stimmiest song you know?
Ohhhh boy. I’m really bad at choosing just one of anything. I kind of cycle through songs I listen to on repeat or in short playlists for stimming. Some of my favorites to play on repeat are: Street Spirit (Fade Out) -- RadioheadRoads -- PortisheadThe Last Unicorn -- AmericaWish You Were Here -- Pink FloydShine on Silver Sun -- StrawbsBright Eyes -- GarfunkelComfortably Numb -- Pink FloydNights in White Satin -- Moody BluesFaster, Faster -- Bree SharpOut of This World -- BushMe and My Charms (Strings Version) -- Kristin HershSpell -- Nick Cave and the Bad SeedsWolf -- First Aid KitTurned Blue -- Caroline’s SpineThe Principles of a Silver Lining -- Larkin PoeChange -- CandleboxLife in Rain -- Remy ZeroA Glorious Dawn -- Carl Sagan ft. Stephen Hawking (Symphony of Science)Fratres for Strings -- Arvo PartThe entire Hadestown album -- Anais MitchellDyin Day -- Anais MitchellRock Salt & Nails -- Front CountryCrabapples -- Bruce Peninsula Arsonist’s Lullaby -- HozierSinnerman -- Nina SimoneBilgewater -- Brown BirdSing My Sister Down -- The Henry Girls
Note these aren’t necessarily my favorite songs, although I definitely love them; they’re specifically songs I use to stim. There’re a lot of others too.
This is what happens when you ask me about music....
so with all the new potion materials and such in skyrim64, do you think that will significantly affect the balance of the game? it's already pretty easy to make money fast that way but more materials might inflate that. i'm excited to see prettier landscapes but ~game design~
i don’t think it’ll alter balance too much, frankly
most plant ingredients you find don’t tend to inflate the prices of potions too much iirc, so at most maybe you’ll get to make an extra handful of gold unless you get your hands on some early giant toes or can somehow make a potion with 4 effects
also in my experience vanilla alchemy is kind of difficult to level unless you spend a ton of money on extra ingredients and make a million potions so maybe having more free things around could help in that regard?
...although iirc there’s a bunch of deathbell added in solitude & riften and those were an ingredient that had a sell value modifier... usually that’s not places low level characters go to ASAP but someone could possibly do that if they were trying to cheese things
other than that i don’t think it’s too much of a game-breaker as far as economics / money making goes, unless there’s something i’m forgetting here
just wanted to let you know that every time i see your username in my notifications it makes me smile!
omg.... thank you 😭
