WUBRG… Warriors ?: Atogatog
...Okay Maybe there was one more I did for fun.
Today I bring "Atogatog".
This random 5 color commander is played by another one of my friends for some odd reason.
Why?
... Like I would know.

Krenko’s Guide to Creature Types: Atog
Art by Ron Spears
What is an Atog (flavorfully)?
An Atog is a semi-bipedal creature with thin limbs and a huge, toothy mouth. They’re notable for generally being able to eat things one would not normally consider food, such as metal, magic, thoughts, or even time. They are native to Dominaria, with a small, thriving population on Mirrodin. The name “Atog” is an anagram of “goat,” suggesting creatures that will eat literally anything.
What is an Atog (mechanically)?
Atogs are 1/2 creatures costing 2 or 3 mana that gain bonus power and toughness until end of turn when you sacrifice something specific to them. The only variant from this pattern on the twelve atogs is that Megatog and Atogatog are both larger than 1/2. Atogs come in all five colors.
Can I make an Atog deck?
Atogatog certainly wants you to, but it’d be impossible to feed them all. Some Atogs, notably Atog and Psychatog, are worthy of appearing in very competitive decks, but the fact that each needs you to sacrifice resources to get the most out of means it’s difficult to make a deck using more than a few. A complete lack of new Atogs since Mirrodin also means it’s unlikely they’ll get more support in the future.
Is Atog a good creature type?
Atog is a wonderful but underutilized creature type. The sheer clarity of what an Atog is means they could easily show up in any set as a hole filler, and their absence on Kaladesh in favor of a functional reprint of Atog was felt. There’s plenty of options left to just make a new Atog, even one so simple as sacrificing a creature, and they could reasonably show up anywhere to eat anything. I’m not suggesting a full Atog tribal set anywhere, but keeping them around with random appearances would be great. It’s not as though many other creatures have remained native to only a few worlds.
