hi! i want to cosplay lara croft (2013 version) for a con coming up and i was wondering if you have any tips or tutorials on weathering clothing and props? thanks ^-^
I actually have not done a whole lot of weathering, surprisingly - Cosplay Tutorial has a section of weathering tutorials - http://cosplaytutorial.com/list.php#DyePaintWeathering - though they're largely geared towards props. For clothing, look at canon references, and also think about, in general, how clothing wears - for instance, pants often end up with a lot of wear on the bottom edges, and thinner patches/holes on the knees. T-shirts end up with underarm stains, and those seams and around the neckline are usually the first to develop holes.
You can use sandpaper on heavier fabrics to get the worn look, and I've discovered you can get nice frayed edges if you make some cuts/holes and then machine-wash and dry the item. Go carefully - it's easy to add more weathering, but hard-to-impossible to go back on if you add too much
(also pinging chairman-miaow because I know he did some weathering for his Hound costume)
