also idk who in canada needs to know this rn (and probably america too tbh considering how intertwined our food supplies are) but it's probably a good idea to just avoid pistachios altogether in pretty much every product you can think of. there's a massive salmonella outbreak (especially in eastern canada, specifically ontario and quebec) and 80% of my current recall emails are about these fucking pistachios
Outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to various brands of pistachios and pistachio containing products
the latest recall notification i got abt this was 2 days ago (8th nov) so this is very much still ongoing
I wanted to share some of the things we've been working on lately! For those not in the know, we make and sell plushies in our ko-fi shop! Most of these are available, or can be made available (Stitch was a commission but more can be made, if asked.)
Most of the patterns are by Choly Knight, except for the Kaiju which is by makeshiftwings.
Hades is a stupidly funny game 😭
before you see something and recoil at the price, be it handmade items, services, art, whatever. when you see something and you think, "i wouldnt pay more than $15 for that," you seriously have to ask yourself: if i were offered that same $15, would i make this object? would i spend the time to teach myself this skill to get this done, for $15? would i do this service for that same $15? would that be worth my time and effort?
yeah, that handmade necklace is $140. you might only be willing to pay $40 for that same necklace, but would you make it for $40 if someone asked you to?
you want to pay the babysitter fifteen bucks for the three hours she's watching your child. but would you honestly do that for $15? would you go into a stranger's house and change their baby's diaper and care for its needs, for $15?
you think its ridiculous that this artist is charging $30 for an icon commission. would you spend years catching up to their skill level to make that same drawing, start using your skill to make some extra cash, and then spend three hours on a drawing just to get $15?
would you be willing to work for $5 an hour?
no?
then don't be angry when someone else won't.
you don't have buy the service, it's okay if some things aren't within your budget or comfort zone, and it's also okay if the product isn't worth that much money to you. but do not be angry. be glad, because you know of another person out there who isn't being exploited for their time.
So true. My husband is a graphic designer, freelance. And he charges for the project itself, his time to do the thing, plus any extras he may need to do in order to complete the project for them, especially if he needs to start altering files or creating art for the project.
He regularly charges $3000+ for his work. And he always has work and repeat clients.
Don't sell artists short just because you think it's not worth it.
My dad, a successful contractor, once told me about giving an estimate for a job: “If you don’t feel a little guilty about how much you’re asking for, you’re not asking for enough.”
This. Is my pride and joy. A gift for my dad, who played Zork with me when I was a kid, and with his dad when he was a kid. I designed this pattern myself and had a great time puzzling out how to hide the glow in the dark letters!
Pattern: “West of House” by me Fabric: 2x1 on 18ct Blue-Grey Aida Started: 11/27/2021 Finished: 12/25/2021
this is adorable
and they took only a month to do it. unbelievable. the focus is inhumane
this is actually so funny because I stayed up WAAAAY past midnight Christmas eve STRUGGLING to finish, frame, and wrap it in time to give it to my dad that morning 😂
all queer history on here is just US-American or maybe sometimes some UK history as well and it makes me sad that there’s so little information about other countries’ queer history on here :(
@makingqueerhistory has some diversity, as of historical queer people, and they’re doing a great job, but there’s a lot of work ahead.
OP is definitely right, there still is a huge gap in the discussions of queer history, and thank you for recommending us!
This isn’t perfect, and many of these only have one article, but here is our list of countries we have written about. We are hoping to one day have at least one article for every country in the world but as @every-book-has-a-secret there is a lot of work still to do.

Of course! Glad we could help!
I’d like to add Tom Of Finland (Touko Valio Laaksonen), the one who drew those erotic pictures of muscular men clad in leather, to the Finnish list.
Some say that Tom Of Finland was the father for the leather gay movement.
PERUVIAN QUEER HISTORY???? God, I love this site
[ID: The Chris Fleming “was anybody going to tell me” meme. A person standing in front of a brick wall speaks, with the captions edited to read, “Okay, was anybody going to tell me that my country has queer history I would’ve adored to know before, or was I just supposed to learn it from a wholesome Tumblr post myself?”]
@queerasfact is a pretty cool blog and podcast dedicated to international queer history!
Thanks for tagging us! We’ve got a list here of all our episodes sorted by country. There’s definitely a lot we haven’t covered, but if you’re looking for a specific area, you can check it out.
Based on a 1970’s guide published by a Feminsit Lesbian Newsletter from Atlanta which is MY NEW FAVOURITE thing on the internet
lahore pigeons are some of the most visually appealing birds out there. like in terms of visual design. very minimalist, good contrast.
Too bad Lahore pigeons are a domestic breed and don’t appear in the wild at all. Some equally balanced wild colorations include
Pygmy Falcon
Great Hornbill
Wallcreeper
and
Black-throated Loon
this is a good addition to this post. thank you for this birds educations
I would like to submit the following additions to the world of exceptional bird color design:
Cedar Waxwing
Red Crowned Crane
Brahminy Kite
Green Tree Swallow (I mean seriously - those are metallic teal feathers against stark white. Damn.)
Bali Mynah
And, last but certainly not least, the cutest fucking puffball on this planet earth:
The Korean Crow-Tit
I’d also like to contribute some pretty awesome birds
Hooded Pitta (or as like to call them little olives)
Coua
Mot-Mot
The Blue Crown Pigeon (the biggest pigeon)
good post

i keep hearing about this who gave them a flamethrower???

Seriously just a bit of pollen could make your cat sick within a matter of minutes. Stay far away from Easter lilies if you have kitties!
Lilies, including the pollen, are FATAL to cats!
It’s nearing that time again. Remember, if you have a cat, don’t bring Easter lillies, or any in the same family, into your home!
Of all the plants people claim to be toxic to cats, this is THE plant to watch out for.
Poinsettias? potentially irritating sap, would need excessive doses to be toxic. Pothos? mildly irritating crystals in the leaves. Lilies? Organ failure.
Specifically, plants in the genus Lilium (Easter, Oriental, Tiger, Stargazer, etc etc) are the bad ones. Lily is a common name shared among a lot of different plants, some more or less toxic, but it’s the Liliums that are documented to be deadly to cats, specifically in causing kidney failure.
Amaryllis and Daffodils are other lily relatives that can be toxic, though not to the same level.
Daylilies (Hemerocalis) are unrelated plants but often listed as toxic (I’ve seen some debates from daylily people as to how true this is but better safe than sorry).
Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis) is not actually a lily but is very toxic to humans as well as animals, though for different reasons than Liliums, causing cardiac issues.
Peace Lilies (Spathiphyllum) are also unrelated and closer in the level of toxicity as a pothos, containing mildly irritating crystals but not deadly
Azalea/Rhododendrons are also a potential spring bloomer I would look out for, especially as I’ve seen a rise in popularity of the forced florist type azaleas this spring as an indoor pot plant. Ingestion can cause organ failure.
Vet tech here, this is all true. Do not bring lilies into your house this season if you have cats. Even if they’re ‘in a room where the cat doesn’t go’ or ‘the cat can’t reach it’. You want to know what owners tell me when they bring their cats in for lily ingestion treatment? The flowers were ‘in a room where the cat doesn’t go, but I went in there and then the phone rang so I left to get it, I only left the door open a minute’, and ‘they were up on top of the fridge where the cat can’t get, but it dropped some leaves.’ Just don’t risk it.
save the kitties!
They/them are not catch-all pronouns for all trans people.
If the person in question uses other pronouns, you are still misgendering them.
They/them is for A. people whose genders you do not yet know B. hypothetical people C. people who actually choose to use they/them pronouns
This counts as a spell
