81′s title is simply “in which Rinoa is here to visit” but the suggested title for it was “in which someone sure loves dogs” and that’s so much better??? i’m so mad????

rinoa doesn’t stop petting rosso to shake sora’s hand. she just does both at the same time

“he told me a name but idk how that is supposed to be pronounced by a human tongue” is a callback actually to like. rinoa and most of the ff crew recognize rosso as a Glorified Summon (he is more like ff8′s GF’s than any other summons, though, maybe he’s like summons in ff10??? i get that vibe but haven’t played ff10 so sweats) AND ANYWAY  it was a gag that i cut but initially sora was like “idfk how i’m supposed to pronounce the name he gave me with my human mouth” and rinoa laughs “same you should have heard what diablos wanted to go by”

kano absolutely hates the name rosso and at least 40% of rosso’s reason for going with it was becuase kano hated it, to be honest

i wanted rinoa and aerith to tlak For Hours tbh but instead we just get a crammed paragraph. that’s okay.

it’s also kind of important to me that aerith gets the first hug out of rinoa, and leon gets the second

i’m a lil mad that this scene isn’t in riku’s pov anymore but i do love kano’s “they’re right sora your memory is absolute shit” “oh shut up”

was this a cop-out to not cover namine’s bday right now and have this take another extra thousand words? a little bit. but also like.  rinoa takes specific note of “namine’s napping and also apparently in a bad mood right now” which ties into Some Things. i’d intended for the two of them to talk next chapter but ended up cutting that in favor of Different (but better imo sorry rinoa) Namine Content.  that’s ok either rinoa forgot (and, after taking a surprise trip to destiny islands, like, seriously) or she was just “well i don’t even know what to say to her??” and drops it. she and aerith and leon probably talk about namine though which, does tie into the next chapter

one more Big Post for atr81 and then the rest will just get clumped into one. this post is about the wolf, and is going under a cut bc it’s?? technically spoilers??? long story short tho it has A Name, now

i’m not sure i ever would have named it in any other context but this one???? but Aggressive Dog Lover Rinoa would be / is absolutely offended that it doesn’t have a name and takes it upon herself to fix this issue

so, Rinoa names Shad’s wolf. isn’t that a fun thing.

i was struggling with a name for a while but since Rinoa was doing the naming figured i’d stick with the San’Angelo di Roma theme and while the wolf did not get a Similarly Long Elaborate name, it did get some italian bullshit

aka: Rosso. it’s name is now Rosso.

(Sora might eventually shorten it to Russ, but that requires the wolf to actually hang out w/ him and not fuck off Who Knows Where on a consistent basis)

Rosso is just red for italian so it’s not super creative?? but, it’s cool.

I considered Rocco for a moment (which Rinoa brings up)---Saint Rocco is the patron saint of many things, including dogs, so it seemed too good to pass up??? but i couldn’t commit to it as a sound. also i’m fond of Russ a lot??? so

ACTUALLY TBH I’M STILL WAFFLING, rocco is pretty good i just?? i fucking hate it in casual conversations? rosso feels so much better. also any nicknames derived from rocco are just, “rocky” or “rocky-boy” and that. is also hard to commit to, especially in a cast that has a guy named roxas, even if he never gets derivative names based on the “rock” mouthsound.

sidenote about ATRch80/81 that’ll probably make you sad, a tiny bit.

in ch80 kano absolutely takes the time to go “ohhhh there are cookies” because he is Local Diehard Sweettooth. i mean more important things are going on so he didn’t get a cookie in that chapter but he fucking wanted one dudes

sora takes control of their shared body back in ch81, and what does he do? doesn’t get a cookie because of his bullshit new eating habits. by 81 the two of them are also Not Really Talking To Each Other meaning that sora doesn’t know kano wanted a cookie and basically i’m just sad because kano didn’t get a cookie and sora absolutely would have gotten a cookie for him if he’d known but he didn’t know and now i’m upset give this boy a cookie

wow!!! this is a thing!!!!! i’m mainly excited about Rinoa tbh (I rearranged part 4′s beginning literally just so i could have her pop up here) but there’s a lot of good content in this, including Part 2 of Riku’s Bday plot
