drawing of scientiist Carmen Xotl for @static-electric-dreams !! They have such a fun design C:
Class: Scholar
Scholars have an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Their quest to learn more and more about the subjects that interest them can drive them into ancient ruins, towering libraries, and forbidden fortresses just to get a taste of what sweet new information they might find there. While a Scholar may have read a lot of books about fighting, most don't make the best warriors, though some select lucky Scholars advance far enough in their research that they unlock their own psychic powers.
Unlike many of the other classes, Scholars are not combat-focused and in fact mainly improve their intellectual skills completely outside of physical action. A Scholar will usually have a specialty, which will influence the advantages and disadvantages they take in rolls and skill checks, and usually starts with multiple known languages.
Scholars gain +2 Mind, and as alluded to above, can take moves from the psychic classes (Empath, Dreamwalker, and Psion) at higher levels.
More backlogged Other Skies art:
Stiletto (Sucralite Idol), Tu (Atraxan Survivor), and Neema (Zair Psion) in the desert in their desert outfits (individual solo pieces below)
Paperclip Pinns (Sucralite victim)
Detective Donut Coffeemug (Sucralite cop)
Avatar Greenleaf (Sucralite priest) (this art also went unused)
Opal (Santornan baby) (psychic somehow)
Some alien snack packaging done in ACNH for my Other Skies dream island 🏝️
Assorted Other Skies NPCs
Applejack — Atraxan Survivor
Applejack is another one where I could have gone either way; I actually think Laranthian would have made a lot of sense for her, too, and might draw and post that version eventually. I went with Atraxan in the end both for the colors and because I like the idea of her being bigger; Laranthians are strong in a wiry way, but I feel like AJ has some bulk behind her.
Atraxans also have strong family bonds and values, which matches with Applejack's life and personality; I could see her saying a prayer or two to her ancestors. Honesty isn't specifically an Atraxan value, but I still feel like she would fit in with the culture overall.
She's a Survivor because, working on a farm, I imagine she's accrued more than a few useful tracking and survival skills, not to mention an affinity for nature. This fits in well with the Survivor move set, and I think would be overall in character for her. If she were a Laranthian, I think she'd be a bug farmer; on Citadel-8, I think her family would be struggling to restore a small plot of land on their own.
All Mane 6
New Other Skies party! I'm really excited to jump in with this group, and I'm happy with how the character art turned out! Top to bottom:
Neema, a Zair Psion (belonging to @lildrownedrat )
Nest, a Sucralite Biohacker
Tu, an Atraxan Survivor (belonging to @cryptidelf )
Stiletto, a Sucralite Idol
(The untagged ones are from people who are not on Tumblr, I'm not just refusing to tag half of them!!)
Fun facts about each one:
Neema is in possession of a Santornan egg, which may or may not house a powerful prenatal psychic.
Nest's backpack holds blood; they swap out which type of blood daily to match their outfit. Today it's Lunestrian blood.
Tu is back! They used to be an eco-terrorist with an anti-corpo gang called the Quetzals-- the reason for their surgically-added wings.
Stiletto is the leader of an Axranic* cult focused on scamming the rich out of their riches-- look at their Totally Real imperial jewel to prove it!
*Axran is the Sucralite god of "mixed circumstances"
