I'll be completely honest here: yes, I know this is an easy target. It's not like I haven't hit easy targets before, though (if “That's New”, “The New Friends”, and “Were not so different after all” are any indication (just to name a few)) and I need something to keep me from going crazy trying to read DJ's Adventure 2 (because that’s definitely coming), so let's get this started.

Right off the bat, I had extremely low expectations for Attack on Vocaloid. The title basically tells you what to expect out of this story: something lazy and uncreative meant to mash unrelated characters into Attack on Titan. I've already gone over my problems with these kinds of fics in my reviews of “Black Mulan Butler” and “That's New”. This fic takes it one step further, though.

Let's start with the adaptation aspect of this fic. It's atrocious. Basically, Miku is Eren, Teto is Armin, and Haku is Mikasa right down to a T. You could call these characters by their actual names and nothing in this fic would be lost. Admittedly, these characters inherently have very little if any personality to begin with, but a little effort to at least distinguish them would help this fic tremendously.

On top of that, the pacing is abysmal. We don't even start with the “tragedy in Shiganshina” that the author teased in their description. Instead, we start after the fact with a conversation between Eren/Miku and Armin/Teto about Eren/Miku's intent to wipe out the titans. We then skip to the day before their graduation, then to right in the middle of Trost without any explanation. We dance around a little with the “important” events in the beginning of the Trost arc leading up to Eren/Miku getting eaten. All of these events take up a grand total of one paragraph each. This fic is only 834 words long. In short, everything goes by WAY too quickly. The author also promises to write more, but never actually does (surprise surprise). To quote my “That's New” review for a minute, “It was as if the writer felt like they needed to write a [Vocaloid/Attack on Titan] crossover fic so badly that they rushed this out and called it a day…while still leaving it unfinished.”

Don't file out of the theater just yet, though, because there's still MORE stuff wrong with this fic.

Remember how “Love in Weird Places” kept calling Miku “Hatsune” throughout the entire course of the story? Well, this fic does it too. What makes this even more egregious, though, is that they manage to get the names of all the other characters correct. Teto is called Teto, Haku is called Haku, so on and so forth. Miku, though, keeps being called “Hatsune” and it's really out of place. This combined with the multiple spelling and grammar issues as well as the bad formatting...well...you've heard me say it before. It's not good.

You know what? I can honestly say I have more respect for “That's New” than I do this fic. At least That's New didn't just try to shove Danny into the role of Frisk without adding in any of Danny's personality. This fic doesn't need to even be a fic. It's straight-up Attack on Titan with the names of the characters changed. If you're going to make a crossover fic, you have to put in effort to really merge the two subjects that you're writing about or you lose immersion and it looks EXTREMELY lazy on your part. Adaptations don't leave much room for this, but they're horrifically easy to write as you already have a clear-cut script laid out right in front of you. This is why a lot of crossover fics end up predictable and shallow from the word go: because lazy people use lazy “ideas” to create lazy fics.

Why am I imagining Kaai Yuki begging her beloved Hiyama Kiyoteru-sensei to not join the Survey Corps/Military in general and to not leave her with Miki and he’s just like. Nah I’ll live. And then Yuki, now probably 30 and has kids, leaves the walls because the titans were gone and places a pair of glasses and book at a tree.
