Welcome to the jungle
John stood on the transporter pad, smirking as he listened to Len bitch and moan about having to use them to go down to the planet. If his brother had his way, they’d use one of the shuttles to go down but they needed the medicine in the next few hours and the only place they could find the plants they needed to make it was on the planet below. So they had to use the transporters to make sure they had enough time to get them and synthesize the medicine before people started dying. Holding on tight to his phaser rifle, he closed his eyes as the beam tore him apart and sent him down to the surface.
He couldn’t blame Len, he didn’t like the transporters either but he didn’t complain about using them. His brother always was a bit more paranoid. Once he felt the warm breeze on his face, he opened his eyes to look around. The surface reminded him of a jungle back on Earth and he chuckled quietly to himself. Len was probably going to complain about this too but it had to be done. John had been in worse places. He watched the rest of the security team pair off with the other members of the away team and he moved closer to his brother. Usually if the two of them were on a mission together, he insisted on sticking with Len. It was the only way he could make sure Len made it back on the ship.
“C’mon little brother,” he teased since he was older by a minute. “Lets go find those plants you need.” He moved away from where the rest of the team was headed. They each had a section to inspect and John had picked the hardest one for them, it had the better chance of success and besides, he didn’t want any of the other members to have to trudge through the thickest part of the jungle. “Then we can get back on board and you can do your magic.” The things Len could do as a doctor felt like magic to him, most of the time. He was happy enough to have his rifle and keep everyone safe, leaving the hard work to his brother.
