The previous owner worked at a Chrysler Plant in Detroit. I found his/her paystub dated May 1, 1955. For nearly 40 hours of work, he/she received about $82 gross earning. After all the deductions, his take home check is $52. Deductions include $18 share towards a saving bond. Health insurance was only 67cents. Sixty seven cents!!!! With all the inflation and socio-economic inequality, it would be terribly difficult to now live comfortably and debt freeon a $2000 monthly income. Unless you own a business or belong to the top 10% or really frugal, working for or under an entity is a dreaded economic plateau nowadays. It goes no where except in a circle. It is a fact that our parents (Baby Boomers) are much more fortunate and richer than the generations that followed them, collectively speaking. *I blotted the social security number* I am keeping this momento. #paystub #antique #chrysler #1950s #atticfinds #paycheck (at Arden Park-East Boston Historic District)
