It's happened - I've made another AU. Well, actually, this is technically the first Undertale AU I came up with. I've just kept this one to myself mostly because I thought no one would be interested. And I'm probably right.
It's a silly idea. An AU born from my love of convoluted crime plots and whacky courtroom antics. Oh, and it's also a reverse harem.
Yeah... this is why I decided to show Wraithtale first.
Attorneytale!
An UNDERTALE AU where an adult Frisk tackles the legal problems of both man and monster in the courtroom as a defense attorney. Inspired by and blends several concepts from the Ace Attorney series.
Before the Story:
When Chara fell ill before death, rather than follow through with the plan, Asriel bailed out at the last second, therefore preventing his own death. Distraught and grieving, Toriel and Asgore, rather than let the soul of their dear departed child go, they chose to preserve it, later becoming the first human soul in their possession.
Asgore never declared war against humanity, remembering Chara fondly. Asgore and Toriel stay together as Asriel grows older, and during that time, six more humans fell down to the Underground. As with Chara, they too were adopted and taken under the care of the royal family. However, each human perished under mysterious circumstances until seven souls were acquired and used to break the barrier.
Asgore breaks the barrier and frees all of monsterkind. However, without an ambassador or anyone to guide them, they are lost on what their next course of action should be. Some monsters wish to live peacefully alongside humanity, remembering the happiness and hope the fallen humans had brought the royal family during their short time with them. Others, contrarily, are still bitter over their long imprisonment in the first place, and some are left divided on the issue altogether. Toriel and Asgore, along with a grown Asriel, handle the political matters as best they can, but tensions still remain.
It’s clear that even though the majority of monsterkind has proved themselves to be amicable, they will need human assistance of some sort…
And so begins the tales of Frisk Lawrence: Ace Attorney.
Other Variations of Importance in Attorneytale:
Since Asriel is alive and grown, thus never becoming Flowey, and because Frisk never fell Underground as well, the resets never happened in this universe. Asriel remains troubled by Chara’s death even in his adulthood, along with the deaths of his six other adopted siblings. He has taken a role alongside his parents as prince in helping to smooth over relations between humans and monsters.
Since Asriel never became Flowey in this timeline, there never were any RESETs. As a result, Sans is in far better spirits than in UNDERTALE, but All is not completely right with this universe, however. W.D. Gaster still fell into the CORE, and Sans takes the brunt of the aftermath by suffering from blanks in his memory.
But Gaster is still floating amongst time and space. Even deep within the darkness of the void, he still has influence. Bringing us to...
The Convergence
Before Frisk’s attorney adventures with the monsters fully begin, an event occurs; several monsters from other AUs are dragged into the Attorneytale universe. How? Gaster shenanigans. In an attempt to bring himself back from the void, the doctor instead accidentally tore open several doors that lead to other universes, then they combined themselves with the Attorneytale universe. Oopsiedoodles.
The majority of the cast are left unaware as to what happened, believing these new additions to the monster community have always been here, but only a few know the truth.
Asgore, Toriel, Asriel, Sans and Papyrus from all included universes are aware of the change by varying degrees. In any universe where Alphys retains her role as Royal Scientist, she is aware, and likewise Undyne in any of the Swap universes.
This occurrence of characters from alternate universes appearing in Attorneytale will henceforth be referred to as ‘The Convergence’.
The Convergence begins to have relevance shortly after Frisk and Papyrus’s first official case together.
...Did I forget to mention that Frisk is an already seasoned attorney, and that Papyrus becomes her protégé? (The Apollo Justice to her Phoenix Wright)
AU’s to be included so far: Underfell, Underswap, Swapfell/Fellswap, G!Sans/G!Papyrus.
Oh yeah, and all five pairs of brothers are neighbors with Frisk.
Let the courtroom shenanigans and reverse harem hijinks begin.
Frisk and the charming skeletons surrounding her in this AU are detailed below. So far the AUs included are Underfell, Underswap, Swapfell/Fellswap, and Gaster!Sans/Gaster!Papyrus. I may add more AUs in the future, but ten skeletons might be the maximum limit for this reverse harem.
Frisk Lawrence: A human and defense attorney in her 20s. She’s already a veteran in the ways of the courtroom by the AUs beginning, a legend in the town, and well renown as the only one crazy enough to live in the neighborhood where infamous mass-murders a few years earlier took place.
Sans: Supports his brother for the most part and tries to patch things up with Frisk once he realizes she’s the one he sent out of the bar in tears. He’s grateful to her for giving Papyrus a job, and wants to become closer with her. He becomes a scientific investigator when Grillby is framed for murder to help Frisk and Papyrus while on the case, but he discovers shortly after he has a phobia of blood.
Papyrus: Frisk’s trainee and partner in the courtroom. He’s become a prodigy in his own right through his ways of gently convincing those on the stand to speak the truth and his ability of eventually finding it anyway should they choose not to. He realizes the risks that run with the job and the pressure that comes with it, but he’s determined to prove the innocence of his clients.
Red / Underfell Sans: He and his brother move in shortly after Papyrus’s first official case alongside Frisk. He becomes a detective in what he says was a move to assist his brother in the courtroom, but was more so he could be close to Frisk and flirt with her during investigations.
Edge / Underfell Papyrus: A prosecutor and Frisk’s self-proclaimed rival in the courtroom. He’s the Edgeworth of the AU, and he takes his new job very seriously, though he cares less about who’s innocent and who’s guilty in the beginning, caring more about winning the trial than anything.
Blueberry / Underswap Sans: He and Stretch move in shortly after the Underfell brothers do, in the same neighborhood. He ponders on becoming a defense attorney and decides to take the exam, but fails. After a short period of being depressed, he then decides to become Frisk’s ‘magnificent assistant’ instead.
Stretch / Underswap Papyrus: While he doesn’t have an ‘official role’ as the others do in the courtroom shenanigans, he’s become an information gatherer/keeper and secret guardian of evidence for Frisk when she’s worried about it going into the wrong hands during a particularly brutal case.
Black / Swapfell/Fellswap Sans: He becomes a prosecutor shortly after Edge lost one too many cases. He’s determined to defeat Frisk and Papyrus in court and succeed where Edge failed. Despite his obsession with winning, he does seem to have a genuine interest in what goes on in the courtroom and the law.
Rus / Swapfell/Fellswap Papyrus: Black’s legal aide and detective. He took two jobs in the law field to help support his brother. Though he’s assisting his brother, he’s still polite and kind towards Frisk and Papyrus, even if Black sees them both as his ‘enemies’. He’s actually incredibly grateful towards them for essentially giving Black a job.
G / Gaster!Sans: Like Stretch, he doesn’t play much of an official role in the court side of things. He appears several times at the conclusions of Frisk’s cases at Grillby’s or when a case gets particularly stressful, offering her food, drinks, and encouraging words while there. In a way, he’s Frisk’s quiet supporter for the most part.
Green / Gaster!Papyrus: After Blueberry became Frisk’s assistant, poor Green was badgered into becoming Edge’s own legal aide. Even though he’s supposed to be on Edge’s side, he ends up helping Frisk and friends during several cases, especially when Edge withholds information/evidence to turn the trial in his favor.
Remember your semi-old AU Attorneytale? I noticed there are no asks about it so Imma give it one :3 I don’t know much about law nor Ace Attorney so, could you give us some flirts/puns exclusive to Attorneytale?
I don’t have that many puns on hand, actually. I’m not that good at punning, to be honest. They either come to me in a burst of inspiration, or I have to think about them for a long time.
But if there are any flirts to be had, I think Red is the best bet. He’s probably told Frisk, being a cop/detective, that he’s arresting her for being criminally adorable, or something like that.
This is the beginnings of Attorneytale - the events that begin Frisk and Papyrus's lawyer adventures together.
It's not really in a fanfiction format, more like a general summary of what happens. Sometimes it's really hard trying to make words go.
The story begins six months after the breaking of the barrier, with Sans mulling over some things in Grillby’s. He and Papyrus are without a house of their own, and he’s beginning to have a suspicion that he and his brother are becoming annoying houseguests to Undyne, more so himself than Papyrus, but that’s beside the point. While it was kind of her to open the doors of her home to them after they had let her crash at their own house in Snowdin too many times to count, it’s about time that the bone brothers got a place of their own.
While thinking this, the bell over the door sounds and in steps a short human wearing a fancy suit. She walks over in his direction, and Sans, not missing an opportunity to mess with these uptight types, places a whoopie cushion on the seat next to him, then motions for the human to join him. She sits down, and the expected happens. The loud sound of artificuial flatulence fills the room. Some of the monsters in the building laugh, but the human quietly orders her food. It’s when she picks up the bottle of ketchup that Sans rigged to spill out that things take a turn for the worse. Before Sans can offer to switch plates with her, the human stands up, quickly leaves money on the counter, then runs out of the bar in tears.
Sans wasn’t expecting that sort of response at all, and only feels worse when Grillby whacks him over the head with a rolled up newspaper and informs him just who it was that he chased out of the bar; one of the few humans that were actively helping monsterkind from the very beginning. Sans feels guilty over what was supposed to have been a few harmless pranks, but Grillby assures him that he’s likely to meet her again in the future.
Several days later…
Sans and Papyrus are househunting and they’re taken to the outer area of the town, a cul-de-sac with several large, spacious houses. Only one other person seems to be living in the neighborhood, in the largest house to the left of the house Papyrus chose. The price of the house is unbelievably cheap as well. Sans is growing suspicious, and he’s right to. The housing agent, Janet, was trying to sell them a house so far away from the rest of the town because they were monsters, skeletons in fact, but it doesn’t stop there – there’s a reason why the cul-de-sac is nearly deserted and the pricing is impossibly cheap.
The neighbor has been listening in the conversation with a small intercom attatched to the gate of their front yard; a soft, female voice then goes on to inform the skeletons that the neighborhood they are in is almost entirely vacant because a series of unspeakably brutal murders took place here several years ago. No one wants to live in the area anymore, no matter how cheap the houses are because of the severity of the crimes that took place here. In a stronger tone, she then adds that Janet not informing them of this, as well as her racist actions towards the font brothers could cause her to be embroiled in a lawsuit if the brothers are interested.
Papyrus kindly rejects this idea, and surprisingly, after he and Sans briefly discuss it, he believes they should buy the house. What happened in this area was indeed terrible, but he believes that leaving it vacant will only allow the bad memories associated with this place to remain strong. He believes that he, Sans and his new neighbor can make new happy memories that will overwrite what happened in the past, making a name for themselves and giving the cul-de-sac a better image in the public. The deal is done, and he and Sans begin their move. Sans and Papyrus go to speak with their neighbor, but it seems she’s left the intercom.
A few days later and not a further word from their mysterious neighbor, Papyrus goes shopping with Undyne and the two come upon a crime scene. A monster is being accused of commiting the crime, but a short human woman in a suit steps in and defends the monster. The issue will be settled in court, with her as the monster’s defense attorney. Undyne is a police officer, so she will be involved in the case as well. She informs Papyrus that the woman’s name is Frisk Lawrence, and she’s become a legend around these parts.
After witnessing Frisk in the courtroom, Papyrus declares he wants to become a defense attorney too…
After discussing the options with Undyne, Frisk goes over the steps to become an attorney with Papyrus. He could either attend law school for several years, or take the bar exam in a few weeks in accordance to the Magnificent Seven exception rule.
Frisk goes on to explain that The Magnificent Seven were a group of seven lawyers, their identities anonymous to the public, who did not in fact attend law school or even took the bar exam, but through a series of illegal maneuvers became attorneys without the law’s knowing. Once they were discovered, however, all seven had made names for themselves in the world of the courtroom. It would be a greater hindrance to remove them than to allow them to stay since they were so skilled in their field. So, to perhaps discover others with this level of talent, an exam was created allowing those interested in the occupation with an ultimatum to skip the process of law school. However, even if the aspiring lawyer passes the exam without flaw, they still need a mentor to guide them.
So Frisk agrees to be Papyrus’s mentor and trains him for the upcoming exam in three weeks. He passes with flying colors.
Its been a while since we had a story update so I’d like to take this time to explain a few things to the audience.
Firstly, yes it is still ongoing. One of my rp partners has just been out of town lately and we wanted to finish up his part before moving on.
Secondly, the next part is written (for the most part) so its ready to go whenever we do finish up this act. I have the evidence planned out and just need to draw it.
Lastly, for those who are still taking part, or just waiting on an update, thank you so much for being patient. I will get the story rolling as quickly as I can.
But for now, how about a brief synopsis?
By the end of the first day of the trial, Burgerpants is still considered a suspect, however much of the blame has been shifted to Papyrus so who knows how long it will go for.
The major evidence blaming Paps are a bone which belongs to him being discovered at the crime scene near the dust pile of the victim. There is also witness testimony that he was indeed at the Snowdin Store around the time the shop owner was found dead.
At present however, the true culprit has not appeared, and a replacement prosecutor has been called in. Said replacement was none other than Mettaton who was just met in the current act. He applied a strange device to the defense which prevents him from teleporting and now he only has time enough to visit one of the two suspects before visiting hours are over.
I still have a piece of evidence that MTT needs to leave behind, but hopefully he will address it in the next reply.
Well that’s everything. I hope you all continue to support the story and enjoy the future acts!
It is now after the first day of the trial. Your client and Papyrus have both been carted off to their respective holding areas at the Hotlands and Snowdin guard stations. It seems that the entire Underground is in an uproar! But none are more so than your partner.
Toriel: How could you do that? I know Papyrus personally and he would never do something so heartless! And isn’t it your job to defend the innocent? What could you have possibly been thinking?
@king-under-mount-ebott After doing a bit of work on the story, I have decided to to a short skit in which you decide to what locations you will be able to visit. Yep, in this story, you have to make choices! What questions to ask and who to talk to will eventually determine what evidence you have access to as well as how the story will progress.
For now though, you only need to decide where to go. I will post a brief starter so feel free to check on it when you have time.
