       a cruel statement it seems  , especially coming from someone usually so quiet  ,  despite being a pillar  .  but he was right  . depending on your belief  ,  the concept of hell may vary  ,  may even be non existent  .  as pillars  ,  in a world filled with demons and part of the the organization designed to kill them  ,  they’ve been through a lot  ,  a true hell if that’s what he meant  .  however  ,  a worried expression crossed his face  ,  making his brows furrow as he faced the fellow pillar  .  despite belonging to the same reality  ,  they rarely ever spoke ( if gyomei ever allowed himself to approach someone )  ―  the recent events and the increasing  number of frivolous attacks had them extremely vigilant  ,  at the statement  ,  coming so suddenly  ,  had him wondering if something had happened  .

    They’d been spending the evening idly, enjoying one another’s company. Nothing out of the ordinary for the duo. The bond between a fox and his hound runs deep, you see. For the hound is loyal and forthcoming, despite how secretive or elusive the fox may be. Even now, Tsurugi lays with his head in the fox’s lap without a care. Danger to most is a tender gesture of affection to him. The lines truly have fogged between them; there’s no clarity. Tsurugi doesn’t seem to care. No one’s ever claimed the hound is wise.

      A serene silence falls between them as Tsubaki’s fingers explore. A subtle smirk slides across Tsurugi’s lips, and he raises a curious brow. Sometimes, Tsurugi wonders how much Tsubaki knows about his past. Moments (a kind nickname for horrible memories) with Higan and Shamrock shouldn’t have gone unnoticed. However, any Captain could have been the one at the battle. He won’t voice his wondering; he’ll simply leave the touch along his arm to its own exploration.

      “ Don’t ask about that one, Fox-chan. ” He replies, recalling the scathing flames that have marked him. Higan was it? To think how Melancholy’s claimed him in so many, many ways. Instead, he simply smiles and offers Tsubaki a slick look. “ You don’t want to know. ” Some parts of the past are better left in ash.

"please continue to teach me."

Time has done irreversible damage to his student. He could feel the inner turmoil, once explosive, heavy, damaging, come down to a simmer. All at once he was the Tsubaki he once knew, and yet, he wasn’t at the same time. A hand falls on top Melancholy's bowed head, sure to startle him, as it’s been years since his hands thread through those delicate locks.

There’s nothing but the upmost  care in his eyes, forcing Tsubaki to look at him.

“There’s no need to bow your head, Tsubaki. Come.”

It’s a silent yes, it’s always yes. For Tsubaki he would never stop teaching, if it meant keeping him by his side.

Why was the question being shaped in such a negative light? Was being proud to be human really such a controversial stance? She couldn’t understand it – no, not at all. It wasn’t a weakness, being human could be the most empowering thing yet! Mitsuri gives a warm smile, hovering a hand over her chest before speaking in all her sincerity.

“There’s nothing wrong with that. Being human is a beautiful thing...! You get to grow and watch others blossom into pretty flowers. Sometimes, other people take longer to reach this stage of life, but doesn’t that make you want to cheer them on more? Life is so precious in this way – as long as they don’t wilt precariously, it might be sad, it might be despairing, but it’s the course of life. That sort of thing makes you want to enjoy every moment to the fullest! Everyone’s life is valuable and they come into your own and leave an impact, no matter how small!”

Pink hues glimmer with brightness. She’s not ashamed nor flustered about her spiel, feeling invigorated about it if nothing else.
