This blog will forever be an archive to my very deep connection to the character, Guren Ichinose.

Yes, I DO like his character.

Yes, I DO enjoy reading and writing about him.

I don’t know if he’ll come back in the manga. It’s really going to depend on Yuu’s motivations at this point and how his squad sides. If everyone reaches Shinoa’s mentality and opinions though, this whole story would be a waste. At least, that’s how I see it. Too many inconsistencies in the characters.

I’m not really sad Guren is gone. I never expected him to make it to the end as a major character. At the same time — where is Narumi???

To that point, so many characters are given stories and motivations that get erased. It’s unfortunate. I’m relieved Guren got a proper ending before the writing infected him too.

So Kagami really decided to retcon the “everything is for family message” that the series had always promoted from the get-go. Mahiru was one of the key examples of that…

To Mahiru being nihilistic and actually never really giving a shit about Shinoa. And was really just doing it all…? To be with Guren…? Despite her plan ruining him 🤔 I’m ,,, god. Sigh.

I give up on playing mental gymnastics trying to understand these plotlines.

Mahiru really never invested in Shinoa despite that being her prime motivation in the light novels. It’s… Kagami said they were tragic sisters in his interview, but I just don’t see it.

I’d ask if Guren is a joke to Mahiru, because that man is literally nothing but regrets. I’m still hopeful this is just Mahiru being an unreliable narrator??? But the writing has took such a downward spiral that I’m doubtful.

What I’m gathering here is Guren/Mahi/Shin canon, yes.

Shinoa telling everyone she doesn’t see the point in life and no one else should despite saying she wants to live for love… And she’s actually countering everyone else’s goals…

I don’t really like this at all???

But Yoichi giving her the benefit of the doubt because she’s suffering is the highlight. Yoichi is the mvp this chapter.

wow. that post took off. well hello everyone! I finally have time to be here again.

I love when people ask me things like, “Why do you ship GureShin?” or “Why do you like Guren?”

And like, I could link the 3567 essays I’ve written about him and his storyline. About the depths of the light novels. About how they are a unique dynamic in media.

But instead I point to him and just go, “He make brain brr brr hard.”

Really though, media literacy has dropped so hard. I like Guren because he’s a character who exemplifies, No matter how bad you fuck up you can still at least try to do right by it.

It’s really simple. Our man has ruined so many lives, lives with crippling depression and is haunted by ghosts (Mahiru is a great metaphor for how regret and guilt haunt someone their ENTIRE life), and how it is better to repent than to choose to give up.

And as for GureShin? I don’t give a fuck if it’s never canon. It’s nice to see how someone like Shinya (who has little empathy) can find someone who inspires him. Idk. Whenever fandom uwuifies Shinya, I want to fight. Because he is not a good person. And like… they thing is Shinya, morally, is more questionable than Guren lmao. Shinya chose Guren BECAUSE he saw Guren as sentimental, morally inclined, and highly empathetic. Shinya wanted to adopt that atmosphere as his own, which is why he holds Guren at a high standard for it. Shinya sees Guren burn out and tries to remind Guren of why he believes in Guren — of who Guren is at his core.

If this ship and character aren’t for you, fine. But people really gotta stop posting anti things in the tags.

So… it’s been a while…

I never really intended to take this long of an actual hiatus. I have not been writing Guren much at all since 2021, and I actually feel rather sad about that. He is a care I love dearly. Even to date, he remains my second favorite fictional character of all time.

I have been accepted into a PhD program and anticipate starting in January 2025, so I will be going back to school! I think, that will be a good time to reinvigorate this blog since Guren has always been a comfort character in times of high stress. In the meantime, I think I will try to reorg this blog some and work on trying to rebuild connections.

I’m sure I’ve lost some followers in my hiatus, and people are probably asking if I write anymore. I do, but not much here. So if you would like to hold my hand as I return here, I would be grateful for any writing opportunities (plots, drabble requests, threads, or otherwise) any of my followers would like to pursue.

I’ve missed you all, truly.
