Republic’s Chosen is a military sci-fi/speculative fiction, tackling themes such as remaining human in the face of hardship and terror, surviving war, learning about camaraderie, leadership, and loyalty. 

Its unique take on humanity’s response to an apocalypse – to forge societies rather than fight for scraps, combines with such contemporary problems as immigration, asylum seeking, social security, institutional bigotry, and international relations. 

The first book takes place in a military campus, in the year 2177, somewhere between the steep mounts of the Canadian Rockies. 

The Base was not as big as Liana had seen camps could get. This part was only meant for soldiers who had not graduated their first two phases. That meant that at any given time, apart from the teachers, staff, maintenance, and the Military Police detachment resident on the grounds, it also contained two full platoons of about sixty trainees each.

Marcus looked around, taking in the familiar sight of a campus: the low buildings, ordered neatly in a П-shape, the long training fields between the structures, and the dirt everywhere. He had always felt at home in a military base – after all, he had grown up on one.
