• Neteyam notices it immediately the first time you try to sneak up on him.

• He hears a branch snap.

• Then another branch snap.

• Then a whispered, “Ow.”

• Then something falls over.

• By the time you reach him, he’s already turned around and is trying not to laugh.

• You still dramatically yell, “BOO!”

• He pretends to be startled anyway because he appreciates the effort.

• Whenever you attempt stealth during hunting trips, he has to gently remind you that prey can hear you from half the forest away.

- “I know you’re trying your best…”

- “That sounded like an entire herd of hexapedes running through the bushes.”

• Despite teasing you, he finds it incredibly endearing.

• If someone else makes fun of your lack of stealth, he’s immediately defending you.

- “Not everyone needs to be a scout.”

• Secretly, he likes that he can always tell when you’re nearby.

Lo’ak

• Lo’ak has absolutely no right to laugh, yet he laughs the hardest.

• The two of you together are a disaster.

• You try sneaking through the forest.

• He hears you trip over a root, then run into a tree.

- “How?!”

- “I DON’T KNOW!”

• He ends up doubled over laughing while helping you up.

• Sometimes he’ll challenge you to stealth competitions.

• You lose every single time. Spectacularly.

• He once watched you try hiding behind a tree that was thinner than your shoulders.

• You genuinely thought it worked.

• Lo’ak couldn’t breathe from laughing.

• What makes him adore you even more is how confident you remain despite overwhelming evidence that you are terrible at sneaking.

- “This time I’ll get you.”

- “No, you won’t.”

- “You’re right.”

Kiri

• Kiri usually knows you’re coming before you even arrive.

• Not because she’s listening.

• Because the forest itself practically announces your location.

• A startled animal runs by, something crashes, birds take off into the sky.

• Kiri just sighs.

- “They’re nearby.”

• Every attempt to surprise her fails instantly.

• One time you spent twenty minutes trying to sneak up behind her.

• The moment you reached her:

- “Hello.”

• You nearly jumped out of your skin.

- “HOW DID YOU KNOW?”

• “You stepped on every stick between here and the village.”

• She’s endlessly patient about it.

• She’ll actually help teach you quieter ways to move.

• Unfortunately, your success rate remains terrible.

• She never gets frustrated though.

• Instead she finds your determination adorable.

• The way you proudly announce, “I was being sneaky!” after causing enough noise to wake an entire clan always makes her smile.

Tsireya

• Tsireya is far too sweet to make fun of you.

• At least not much.

• Every failed attempt is met with affectionate giggling.

• You once tried sneaking up on her while she was gathering shells.

• She heard you splashing from several meters away.

• Then heard you stumble.

• Then heard you whisper, “Don’t look.”

• She was already smiling before you even reached her.

- “Were you trying to surprise me?”

- “…No.”

- “Really?”

- “…Maybe.”

• She thinks it’s adorable that you keep trying.

• Whenever you hide, she intentionally takes longer to “find” you.

• Not because you’re good at hiding.

• Because she wants you to feel successful for once.

• Tsireya is your biggest supporter.

• Even if your stealth skills are catastrophically bad.

• She’ll still tell everyone, “They’ve improved!”

• Whether that’s true or not is highly debatable.

Ao’nung

• Ao’nung notices immediately. Every. Single. Time.

• The problem is that he enjoys watching the attempt unfold.

• So he doesn’t say anything.

• He’ll hear you approaching from a ridiculous distance away.

• Then pretend not to notice.

• Just to see how far you’ll get.

• He once listened to you accidentally kick three rocks, trip twice, and crash into the water.

• You still thought you were hidden.

• Ao’nung was fighting for his life trying not to laugh.

• Eventually you’ll jump out.

- “Aha!”

• He immediately bursts into laughter.

- “You heard me?”

- “From the beginning.”

- “THE BEGINNING?”

- “The very beginning.”

• His teasing is relentless.

• Yet he’s secretly impressed by your confidence.

• Most people would give up after failing that many times.

• Not you. You’re committed. And honestly?

• He finds that determination ridiculously charming.

• Sometimes he’ll even let you think you succeeded.

• But only because seeing how proud you get is worth it.

description: ever since you and your family arrived on awa'atlu it had been practically impossible to stop you and ao'nung from butting heads, which often led to fists being thrown. but what happens when even the tsahik, ao'nung's mother, notices? even better yet, what does she make of it?

warnings: fem!reader, mentions of minimal injuries?, ronal is lowk a little mean but we all love her still, my atrocious header should be its own warning sorry guys it's my first time making one 😭😭

walking to the tsahik's marui felt like walking in a daze. your legs guided your body towards it, feet rubbing against the worn woven material. the odor from her healing pastes and medicine subtly made itself known within your senses, a quiet reminder of why you came in the first place.

there sat before you ao’nung, facing his mother. your presence clearly went unnoticed, as the tsahik continued to reprimand him. “stupid, stupid boy,” she muttered, applying a paste across the top of his cheek, “you are being trained to become olo’eyktan one day. is this how an olo’eyktan behaves?” his ears pulled back at that last sentence, his teal eyes refusing to meet his mother’s. shame painted his features, annoyance bleeding at the edges.

“but mother-" “enough. you’ve made enough of a fool out of yourself. i have another person to attend to” ronal cut off, nodding her head towards you while still keeping an eye on ao’nung’s injuries. you felt like a deer in the headlights as ao’nung’s head turned towards you. heat crept up your neck towards your ears as you felt you intruded in a moment you did not belong to. the thought almost made you scoff. when did you ever belong on this stupid island? 

the metkayinan boy eyed you up and down, looking at the result of the previous scuffle. to be frank, you barely had any scratches on you, a testament to your skilled combat. your ‘injuries’ were a stark contrast to ao’nung’s, with you only having a few scratches compared to ao’nung’s blooming bruises. in all honesty, you did not need to visit the tsahik, but your father forced you, so that you would “learn the hard way,” whatever that meant.

you smirked and nearly snorted, carrying a smug air about you, which undeniably pissed off ao’nung. a bitter taste was left in his mouth; he had never been good at losing. the ends of his lips curled into a frown. as he stood up to leave, he sent you one last glare before stomping off to eywa knows where, leaving you with ronal.

ronal, who was not only the tsahik but his mother. your smirk dropped instantly at the realisation, at the implication that she may treat you much harsher than how she treated ao’nung. so this was what dad meant. your heartbeat suddenly quickened as she beckoned you to come and sit, almost as if awaiting a trial’s verdict. as you crossed your legs and sat facing her, she firmly but gently grabbed your face and inspected it. her eyes darted across, each look landing like an arrow on your chest. few people scared you, but ronal had earned her place on that short list since the moment you arrived. after what felt like hours, she let go of your face and dipped her finger in a pale green salve, and applied it on the few cuts. the treatment did not sting, luckily, which alleviated the dull pain but also the anxiety which sat like a weight on your chest. 

“you fight well for an outsider,” ronal suddenly said, her voice leveled and calm, “few can readily take on five boys at once, and not to mention you’re a girl.” you almost felt your whole body shrinking under her words while she spoke, until the last phrase. your back almost straightened, and you found the voice to speak “being a girl has nothing to do with my capability. besides, my brothers were with me too.”

she paused, then nodded, “indeed.” a silence settled between the pair of you. you were unable to tell if it was a comfortable one, or not. her eyes met yours again, and you could almost touch the wisdom that brimmed beneath them. the feeling was similar to your grandmother’s eyes. the thought sent a pang to your heart; you silently yearned for your life that once was, with the forest, the omatikaya, and the mountains.

your thoughts quickly dissipated as ronal’s voice brought you back to reality, “you, and your brothers, fought ao’nung and his friends today. five against three, and you leave with barely a mark on you.” she studied you for a long moment. “tell me then, what do you make of him?”

what do you think of her son? the only proper answer would be pompous, egotistical, and a complete pain in the ass. but you bit your tongue, and quickly answered, “respectable. he cares for his clan a lot-“

“do not take me for an idiot. you cannot seriously think your words are believable after the state you left my son in. tell me, honestly this time, what you think of him.”

you gulped. then blinked. why would she care for the words of an outsider? it suddenly clicked. you had no reason to mold your words to her liking. no reason to attempt to gain her favor. what she expected of you were unfiltered and unflattering words. maybe that was exactly why she was asking. you answered honestly, but still carefully choosing kinder words (she is the tsahik after all), “he… is unfriendly to say the least. he has an unjustifiably high ego, and he lacks empathy. though, i can’t completely blame him for being hostile.”

your words certainly took her by surprise as she blinked twice. “you cannot blame him?”

“no,” you responded meekly, “my family and i have known nothing but war. us coming here… it’s only reasonable that you fear the war will be brought to you.” you paused. “but what i cannot find reasonable is your son bothering kiri. she is the best of us. kind. compassionate. gifted.”

“gifted?” “yes, gifted. she’s different than the rest of us. she hears eywa better than us. but with her kindness she compromises her awareness. ao’nung took advantage of that. he chose the one who wouldn’t necessarily fight back. it’s weak. he is weak. no one, especially the olo’eyktan in training, should manipulate that trait to their advantage.” the words tumbled out before you could think, your habit of running your mouth getting the better of you. as soon as the words left your lips, you inhaled sharply as you realized the gravity of what you said. “tsahik, i am so sorry… i was out of line.”

her application of the salve paused while you spoke, listening almost attentively. her lips drew into a thin line, which made your chest tighten. now you really did it. only a few weeks in having sought uturu and you will already be thrown out. dad would seriously skin you. alive, possibly.

“you are right, unfortunately.” she muttered, coming back to the routine of putting on healing salve. this reeled you back in, and rendered you in a complete state of shock. she waited for a moment, before speaking again, “i have a feeling, however,” as she dipped her fingers into the salve, “that i will be very familiar with your face soon.”

you blinked, “i don’t plan on getting into any more fights, tsahik.”

“that is not my point. i never said it would be you causing them.” ronal replied, talking about her son as if he were simply the weather, “ao’nung has rarely lost a fight, and even then he does not come to me when he loses. twice now he has come to my marui, and both times it was because of you.”

your heart jumped to your throat, her words silencing you. “the first time, he complained that you fought dishonorably. completely unorthodox and unfair, his words.” her pause made your tail swish in worry, “the second time, he came to complain that you did not.” her eyes met yours, this time you could feel almost a sense of amusement creeping up to the surface. “i raised that boy. i know contradiction when i hear it. and i also know what usually causes it.”

“with all due respect, tsahik, i think you’re reading too into it.” you quickly said, averting eye contact and dreading whatever would come out of her words next.

“perhaps.” her tone was unconvincing. she continued applying the salve as if nothing happened. as if what she just said did not worry you to the bone.

you felt years being lifted off you every second longer she took to tend to your cuts, your suffering finally ending when she took one good look at you and closed the jar of salve. you visibly relaxed, figuring the end is near. “perhaps you should prepare yourself for the possibility that i am not.” she gestured towards the entrance in a quick, almost graceful motion. “you should rest. you will surely need it for the days ahead.”

you muttered a thank you, and an i see you, before exiting the marui and heading toward your family’s. her words replayed over and over in your head. even as you laid down to sleep. 

great mother, you quietly prayed, whatever that skxawng has in plans for me, please guide me through these terrible times.

“Your cuteness is making everyone stare. stop it.” Neteyam sweetly teases you, as you finish giggling at your own joke, quite loudly might I add.

“Ma’ teyam you worry too much. I am sure they aren’t staring at just me, maybe the sun looks quite nice today” you argu with sass in your tone. Neteyam simply shakes his head at you and gives you a light kiss on the forehead.

“You are too cute for your own good yawne” he replies as you giggle again, tickled from the light kiss he’d given you.

“have I ever told you how I met my spirit sister? It was insane-“ you suddenly stray from the original topic, as one does with low attention span- and begin to ramble out stories animatedly.

Neteyam looks at you with such a fond look in his eye. ‘Nothing can replace this feeling.’

You notice his staring, “what?” You question with a soft smile pausing your story. He brightens up with a smile that reaches his eyes “Nothing ma’ yawne..nothing at all.”

Genre: Fluff, an incredible amount of fluff, suggestive undertones if you squint

Warnings: Na'vi scent marking headcanon, na'vi purring, human x na'vi, not proofread, very short TT

Summary: The first time you see your new mate in his human body and something doesn't feel right until you fix it.

A/N: Super short and not proofread but I just wanted to get this out. Might add more later?

The forest had long since woken up from it's bioluminescent slumber and the sun shone after it's eclipse once more. Hunters had already returned with their ikrans and the fires had been lit to cook the evening meal. But one man seemed too preoccupied to join the other omatikayan families, leaving his new mate to seek him out for herself.

The metal case of the lab was nothing short of an eyesore, a stark contrast to the lush flora and fauna of the forest around it but (Y/N) still ventured closer. She knew her mate's tendency of getting his mind stuck on whatever made up a new plant he had found the day before but this was a new record time in how long he would stay cooped up in that awful metal box. She didn't like it but she knew whatever sky-people machines were in there was the entire reason he was on this planet. That still didn't stop her from avoiding the place, though.

The two of them had met right before the war that drove most of the sky-people away and they had mated shortly after the olo'yektan’s first son was born but (Y/N) had yet to pry her mate into sharing his human body with her. She had heard Norm and Jake talking about when Neytiri had first seen his human body when saving his life in the war. She heard Norm talk about how he was reluctant to share that part of himself with her because he already knew how Mo'at felt about them mating without him making the consciousness transfer. Since then, (Y/N) let the matter rest and never brought it up.

But today, he had not gone to see her even once and it was already close to eclipse again. That's why she now stood outside the metal doors of the lab, hands fiddling with the necklace Norn hard learned to make just for her. With a deep breath, she entered, crouched down to fit inside.

The lab was a mess of carts with electronics and old-school paper files everywhere, and in the center was Norn himself, slumped over a microscope in cargo shorts, a half buttoned short-sleeve and his dark blonde hair a mess, only held out of his face by a brightly patterned bandana. He didn't look up at first as he quickly noted down something on a notepad next to him, a focused look on his face.

(Y/N) cleared her throat lightly as she secured the air filter mask around her neck, something she remembered Norm telling her in case she ever came in. Said man looked up in surprise at the sudden noise, chest rising and falling quickly before his pulse settled again.

“(Y/N)?” She chuckled at his surprised expression as she studied his features. “Wh- What are you doing here?” He consciously combed his hair through with his fingers.

“Ma’Norm.” Her voice was warm as she all but crawled to him in the human sized space.

“(Y/N)…” His voice matched hers as he relaxed into her space. Her large hand cupped the side of his face, making him close his eyes and lean in, letting out a sigh.

“It's almost time for supper. No-one has seen you all day.” She did her best not to let a whine escape her as she pouted slightly, making Norm chuckle.

“I'm sorry, I've been studying that plant I found the other day.”

“You were away most of yesterday too, Ma’Norm.” She countered and took both of his hands in hers.

“I'm sorry, I'm sorry… and I'm sorry your first impression of human me had to be this.” He smiled sheepishly but she just looked at him with fondness in her golden eyes. “I'll freshen up here and then I'll link up and join you.” He promised and was about to stand up from his desk when he noticed the sudden frown on his mate's face. Her nose twitched slightly and as she followed the scent, let her nose brush the column of his throat. Norm backed away quickly, looking worried

“Do I smell that bad?” He sniffed the collar of his shirt while he was already rushing over to his bunk in the other room.

“Ma’Norm.” (Y/N) grumbled as she followed, grabbing him around the torso to stop him from making a mess of his bag of clothes. She could feel him relax in her hold and turn around.

“You smell clean. Too clean…” She pouted as Norm chuckled.

“You had me worried there.” He mumbles as she buries her face in his neck again, this time rubbing her nose and cheek against the soft skin lightly. This was rare, Norm was usually towering over most other sky-people but here, in his lover's arms, he felt small. He closed his eyes with a smile, flushing under his mate's touch. Soft purring vibrated from her chest as he could only assume he started to smell more and more like herself again. He had always been fascinated with the Na'vi’s heightened senses compared to humans.

(Y/N)’s lips led a trail of kisses from the juncture between his neck and shoulder up to finally land on his lips as one of her hands supported his head and the other around his waist.

“Ma’Norm.” She all but purred, slowly pulling away to look at his flushes face. Baring her fangs, she grinned at his half lidded expression before rubbing her nose over his cheek with a loud purr. Norm was left thoroughly loved on, face heated and body soft in his mate's arms.

i wish there were more alternative isekai’d (fem/gn! considering that’s what i typically read but in general it’s whatever) readers especially when it’s in fantasy settings…it would be such a cool trope especially if reader is very vocal in what they believe in and it rattles the people they are around. alt isekai’d reader pushing for gender equality, women’s rights, and education of the “commoners”/“peasants”, etc very out spoken on their/her hatred for men(optional ig) and how they treat women. it would also be fun to see how the characters would react to reader’s personality and beliefs and the piercings and/or tattoos along w the alt clothing style and makeup. i feel the same w like a modern! reader time traveling like as in a modern!reader from that universe. i also like when that trope of reader is able to have their phone or smth from the og world with them. iit’s just kind of surprising yet that no one that ik of has written of an isekai’d reader w piercings and/or tattoos when it’s a pretty common thing in majority of places and a lot more accepted in today’s society for the most part. i also wish we saw more of the struggle of isekai’d/time traveled main characters have in general accommodating and adapting to a completely different society and culture??? and learning to keep references under wraps to avoid messing with the timeline or being accused of witchcraft or whatever. idk i might write it eventually but tyy for reading this little rant😭
