Okay I feel I need to say this - the concept of ageism to me is like the concept of "white racism" or "misandry" because it is DESIGNED FOR AND PURPOSELY CATERED TO PEOPLE WHO ARE ALREADY PRIVILGED. I find it genuinely disgusting that people think "stigmatizing old age" is a problem when systems that impose authority are LITERALLY DESIGNED TO SILENCE AND DISEMPOWER YOUNG PEOPLE.
IT IS MADE ABUNDANTLY CLEAR TO YOUNG PEOPLE THAT THEY ARE DEEMED UNABLE TO MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS IN SOCIETY THE SECOND THEY SPEAK UP AND THAT IS DISGUSTING.
I agree that the anti-aging movement is holding people to ridiculous standards, and that people of all ages should be accommodated, but you guys ARE NOT SEEING THAT THESE ISSUES ARE ROOTED IN SEXISM AND ABLEISM.
Being a part of an older generation means that you have a responsibility to educate yourself and care about younger generations until you cannot any longer. Not slap them into submission while you stay exactly where you are. People in positions of power over others HAVE TO EARN THEIR RESPECT and that's not going to be earned by spoon-feeding young people the idea that THEY owe YOU while YOU put them down.
