New Beginnings

Dohyun had spent the last fifteen years of his life in secret, afraid of being caught practicing anything that even remotely resembled mutant related activity. He read texts in both English and Korean, watched videos explaining the intricacies and mechanics of mutant abilities, and even dedicated a large chunk of his teen and young adult years to illegally practicing his craft; but none of those texts, or videos, or experiences could ever substitute for real training. In a funny and twisted sort of way, all of that trouble and damage he had caused, gave him the opportunity for growth and he had fully intended on capitalizing on this opportunity.
In his heart he knew that his was the right place for him to be, but that didn’t make things any easier for him. All of that time spent sneaking around had made him apprehensive towards publicly using his powers. He liked that he was able to keep his ability to himself, only using them for things that he knew he could get away with, but it had stagnated him. Dohyun had grown way too comfortable with his ability to change the probability of known events. His power was one that could be expanded to do great things, but there was still part of him that feared what would happen when he expanded on those powers.
Needless to say, standing in his first training session had caused him extreme anxiety. It was supposed to be an opportunity to learn about each other, and see how different abilities worked. Was he excited? Definitely, but his nerves had momentarily taken precedence over whatever excitement he had felt. Their instructor had begun explaining something about being paired off in groups, but Dohyun only half listened. His eyes began darting around the room trying to size up his class. He had surmised that there were probably as many abilities as there were grains of sand on a beach, and the odds of him being in a class with someone who had his same exact ability were highly unlikely.
As their instructor’s speech came to a close, Dohyun turned his attention back to the class in time for him to figure out which group he was supposed to be placed in. Reluctantly he shuffled his feet towards the general area where he was supposed to be and stood next to one of his group mates. Pushing back his nerves, Dohyun cleared his throat, and held out his arm.
“Hey, I’m Dohyun and I’m terrible at introductions.”
