Snowflake (with Ashton)
“Damn it, Abby. This is the last time I take you up on your crazy ideas.” Ashton blew into his hands and rubbed them together quickly. It was freezing outside and Ashton would not stand for this for much longer. “Ashton. Skiing isn’t crazy. Getting stuck on a ski lift is not a normal part of a skiing adventure.” Abby rolled her eyes and pulled her hood over her head.
All Abby had wanted to do today was have some best friend bonding time with Ashton. She had not anticipated the ski lift to break halfway up the hill. “Put your fucking gloves on and stop doing that.” The movement of Ashton’s hands was rocking the lift and driving Abby pretty close to insanity. Ashton’s eyes wandered over to his brunette best friend and he let out a sigh before dropping his hands into hers. “Sorry” he mumbled letting his eyes trail up to her face.
If he had to be honest, he wasn’t really that upset that they were stuck together. Alone. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d spent time with just her. He knew why, too. It was the way he felt about her, the way he knew she felt about him too. And the fact that they’d never be able to act on it. It was enough to drive the guy crazy. Abby got his gaze and frowned. “Don’t look at me like that.”
“Like what?” Abby shook her head, she wasn’t going to let him play it off today. “Ashton.” She sighed. She didn’t know why she was still treating him like this. It wasn’t like she and Danny were still together or anything. They’d tried out dating, it didn’t work. She’d never even told him she loved him, because the night he’d said it, she realized it had always been Ashton. And now here they were 6 months later, still treating Danny like a child about to break.
Without even really thinking about it, Abby leaned up, careful not to rock the lift anymore than necessary and placed a soft kiss on Ashton’s lips. His eyes widened briefly before he pulled her closer to him and deepened the kiss.
Maybe later when they were safely on the ground he could deny his feeling for his best friend again. But right now, he was freezing and the only thing keeping him warm were her lips and the hope that was growing inside his chest. The hope that maybe soon they wouldn’t just have stolen moments.
