❝ how stupid was i to trust people i don’t know? ❞
Becca hardly ever used her magic for anything that wasn’t Apparition these days, but she found herself waving her wand, watching as lamps and tables and other things that had been knocked over in the fray righted themselves. She’d been so focused on cleaning up that she’d almost forgotten Oliver was still helping her, too, and she paused her work to go rest a hand gently on his shoulder, squeezing reassuringly and leaning into him a bit.
“You know I’ve never thought you were stupid,” she told him truthfully; even when they hadn’t been on the best of terms, she’d still always believed he was capable of so much more than he gave himself credit for. Her eyes darted around the room, assessing the damage to the apartment he shared with Leo, and she smiled sadly, for the first time feeling like her being here had actually helped rather than hindered his life.
“Sometimes if you don’t take chances, you miss out on the best people there are... And sometimes, they try to rob you blind and get stopped by a tiny canary who happens to like sleeping in your bed better than her own,” Becca teased lightly, hoping that she could find a way to get Oliver to smile after the night he’d had. “By the time it’s all cleaned up, it’ll look brand new, and you’ll almost be able to forget this whole night ever happened.”
