You never know the people you’re going to meet on a bus. Anyways, this all started a few hours ago. I was going to the police station for my first day in Raccoon City and well, I didn’t exactly have my car because me and driving just didn’t mix these days. So, here I was, squished together with a bunch of disrespectful passengers on a city bus. All the people weren’t exactly eye-catching except one girl.
She had (h/c), (e/c), and (s/c). Ever so often, I’d catch her staring in my direction. It wasn’t until the next stop that she switched seats and sat near me.
She looked as if she was going to say something but quickly stopped herself and began rummaging through a purse I hadn’t noticed before. She was searching through a wallet for something, change perhaps? Feeling particularly curious and helpful, I offer up whatever I have on hand.
“Are you looking for change? I have some spare, I think.” I start digging into my pockets, scourging up any money I could find in there, she got up to protest, but I denied her the chance as I held out a palm of change-about fifty dollars worth in five dollar bills. It was some money a friend gave me before I left.
Her eyes go wide, “I couldn’t-”
“It’s okay,” I smile, putting my palm out further.
“Sorry about that staring earlier. You just really reminded of someone I knew, you know?”
“You okay?” I questioned, not very interested in learning a life story on the bus.
“Well, it doesn’t matter now,” She smirked, her eyes lighting up with an unrecognizable glimmer. She rose from her seat as the bus came to a halt and collected her belongings. “I’ll come back with your change.”
As she walked away, realization hit me that she took her bag with her. I hopped to my feet and chased after her.
She took my money, fifty dollars, and walked away as if I was dumb enough to fall for her petty crime. As a new police officer, I should’ve known better. I wasn’t going to just let her get away with it.
“Hey!” I ran as fast as I could to catch up to her. “Hey, wait a minute!”
She turned just as I stopped, and lunged at me and kissed me.
Kissed me.
Naturally, my instinct was to kiss back. It was a scene. People passing on the street stopped and clutched their hearts, clearly thinking I was this hopelessly romantic guy who was kissing a passionate kiss to my lover. Her hands clasped my cheeks after slipping my money back into my jacket pocket. My arms finding their way around her waist, pulling her close as I could get her to me. She smelled like mint and warm vanilla, and her lips were very soft. Somebody cheered us on.
“I’m (Y/N),” she panted between hasty kisses.
“Leon,” I replied just as breathlessly. “Thanks for your attempt at scamming me.”
“I do it to everyone,” she whispered, pulling a small box from her pocket and holding it between us. “You’re going to get down on one knee and open this.”
I look at the velvety surface of the box she showed me. Shit.
Not sure what’s coming over me, but, I actually listened to her.
Once I got down on my knee, the crowd that formed around us roared with excitement-some clapping, others whistling. Didn’t these people have places to be? (Y/N) paints a big smile on her face and nods her head yes before leaning down to hug me.
“Sell it,” she whispers in my ear, and I obey. I lift her up and twirl her in a circle, her kissing me as dearly as she did our first kiss (which, yes I’m aware, was almost about a minute ago.) After I put her down, she grinned widely at me and hugged me again. People began giving me money and congratulated me, no matter how much I refused. I’m guessing this was her whole plan? To get some guy to succumb to her fancy scam?
We began walking down the street hand in hand, and when we arrived outside the police station, I turn her to face me. Did I want to turn her in? My brain was screaming for me to take her in, but another part of me quietly urged against it and I wasn’t sure why.
“You’re pretty good at this, Leon,” she complimented as she stuck all the money she earned (or actually stole, to be honest I couldn’t tell) in her purse.
“I could say the same about you,” I started carefully,” Why are you even conning people on a bus?”
“People are always willing to pay for a good show, no matter where it takes place. It helps if it’s something straight out a cheesy romantic comedy,” she states plainly, as if it should’ve been obvious. “Why did you go along with it, rookie? You could take me in right now if you wanted.”
She gestures towards the gates of the station. Was I that obvious?
“I...well...uh...I don’t know honestly,” I stammered. She laughed and rested her head on my shoulder. I realized that she hadn’t let go of my hand since we got here.
“You know, for the record, I am single.”
“Technically, no, since you’ve convinced everyone in the surrounding area that you’re getting married,” I scoffed, “To me, might I add.”
“It wouldn’t suck,” She reasoned. “You’re kind of hot.”
I learned a few things that day:
One: This wouldn’t be the last I saw of (Y/N). Granted, it would be on different sides of the law. I let her off easy every time.
Two: I fell in love for the first time and probably the last time.
Three: Don’t fall in a love with a criminal.
I had no clue how to end this but here you go! Enjoy!
The serpent wore a glum expression as he coaxed his offspring into bed. He had them in his room for now. Their rooms were too close to the basement. Too close to the malicious imposter that had taken over Leon’s body. He didn’t want to risk them being within his grasp. There was no telling what he would do to them. Or have them do.
His confrontation with the other had not ended well. All he had learned was that the dark version of Leon was extremely hostile, and that he was genuinely alone wherever he was from. That only meant his Leon, wherever he had been sent, had no one to depend on. If anything, anyone he could think of turning to for help was out to hurt him.
What was worse, the imposter had no idea how he had wound up switching minds with the original. Meaning there was no telling when, or if, they would go back to their original bodies. There was no knowing if his partner and lover would return. That, broke his heart. Not only because he feared never getting his Leon back.
But, because his Leon was all alone. All alone, and he hadn’t been told that his sister bore the same curse as them. Sally was “Alive”. She roamed the town he and Leon once lived. His plan had been to tell Leon of this once everything had settled down, but now he feared he might never get the chance. This mind switch had ruined everything.
It had trapped Leon in a world he did not know, in a body he did not know, and probably with a number of enemies out to harm him. It had trapped Leon with no one to turn to for any form of comfort. In turn, he had lost his partner. His offspring had lost one of their parents, and others had lost a friend. He was at a loss. He didn’t know what to do.
What could he do? Should he just wait? Should he look around and see if anyone knew what to do? Would the clowns know? If they did, would they bother to help him? Mono didn’t exactly like Jack, but as far as he could tell, there was genuine friendship between the clown and Leon. The serpent didn’t know.. All he knew at this point, was fear.
