So I grabbed a copy of Jailed for Freedom by Doris Stevens off gutenberg because I cried three times watching Suffs and thought it would be interesting to read the writer-character's real-life counterpart's account.

And I did not anticipate how funny this would be. She's absolutely skewering Wilson via footnoted citations to previous remarks. I'm only halfway in and I suspect it'll get a lot grimmer shortly but this is delightful.

Does anybody else get a little teary eyed during the "I want my mother to know I was here, I want my sisters to know I was here, I want my great-granddaughter to know I was here, I want my students to know I was here, I want my niece to know I was here, I want your great-granddaughter to know I was here" part in The March (We Demand Equality) from Suffs or am I just weird and emotional?

This is an important watch for folks in the U.S. about the fight for women to get the right to vote.

The in-fighting across generations and races is important to see. Politics isn't pretty, and basic rights don't come easy or free when it's a constant uphill battle against oppressors.
