WIP Wednesday Whenever

Thank you @mushrooms-x-moss for the tag. Slowly piecing together my new AU as I can not share the other thing I'm working on just yet 😏

"Congrats on yet another victory, mon amie." Antoine said as he rose a beer glass up. The clanking of glasses was heard despite the loud music of the bar and the open garage door, allowing the everyday noise of the outside in.

Zea was surrounded by her favorite people, Evka and Antoine, the married couple that owned the gym she worked for. Davrin, her love, sparring partner, and coach. A few of the gym regulars, like Taash and Lucanis and his detective on and off partner, Neve.

"So, you have any plans to go pro?" Neve asked leaning back in her chair, her rum and coke swirling in her glass.

"Nah, I'm too old. Plus I like where I am. I'm comfortable and happy." Zea said that last part looking over her beer mug at Davrin. He caught her eye giving her a knowing wink.

"You two are cute. but lets wait until you guys are home before clothes come off." Chimed in Evka who also picked up on the shift in the air between them.

"Agreed. We do not need a repeat of last week. Viago still glares at me and the booth is still being cleaned." Lucanis shook his head in feign disappointment.

"Hey, that was one time and we thought the place was closed." Davrin cheerfully argued.

"There was literally a surprise party happening behind the double doors. No way you two thought you were safe." A playful argument between the two men took place as everyone laughed.

Continuing on with the merriment as the bar quickly filled up with other patrons. During the middle of their celebrations, Zea caught a well dressed man in a suit too expensive for the bar he just strolled into.

He weaved through crowd, heading towards Evka, who was grabbing more drinks. She was too far to hear what the man was saying. If the look on Evkas face was anything to go by, it wasn't pleasant.

The man handed her something spoke more and then made his exit. Once Zea was sure he was gone, she quickly made her way towards Evka.

"Who was that?"

Who am I?

Something a little different after a weird week.

My name is Tessa Volkarin.

Yes, the name is familiar. My father is the esteemed Dr. Emmrich Volkarin of the Mourn Watch.

He’s a good dad. The only parent I have. My mom died when I was born. 

Dad did his best, juggling academic and Mourn Watch duties with raising a child.

He didn’t trust many people to care for me. Just Myrna, Vorgoth, and a wisp of curiosity that eventually became my brother Manfred. Fred. Coolest brother ever.

When I started school in the Necropolis, I was that kid. My dad was famous. Vorgoth dropped me off at school sometimes. I knew more about where we lived and the Mourn Watch than all the other kids. Fred and I knew all the good hiding spots, the best wisps to play with, where the walls moaned and sang.

Everyone wanted to be my friend. Or so I thought. Over and over, I’d grow close to someone only to discover they thought I was weird. Odd. Different. They were only my friend because their parents wanted something from my dad or Vorgoth or Myrna. Power. Prestige. Access to something.

Four years of this. Four years of me finding that all I needed was Dad, Fred and the Necropolis.

Dad took it all away from me. He even took my name.

The summer before my fifth year of school, Dad pulled me aside and gave me a folder. Identification papers under the name Theresa Ingellvar, an orphan raised by the Mourn Watch. With my face.

Then he showed me a website. Boarding school in Cumberland. The story he spun was full of love and enticement. A fresh start. Dad said I deserved to by myself, not a reflection of him or my environment. I could become a Mourn Watcher if I wanted, but he wanted me to see what else the world had to offer first.

Fred and Dad would always be there for me. We’d email and text every day and Dad assured me it would be enough.

Annoyingly, it was enough. Theresa, call me Tessa, Ingellvar thrived at boarding school. I was no one. I decide who I wanted to be and made friends who liked me for me. 

Boarding school led to university. The Necropolis was in my heart, and I decided to study art history. It had been a toss-up between that and potions, but Dad said art would provide more options.

I traveled throughout Thedas when on break instead of going home. I spent a semester and summer abroad in Salle, Antiva, where I met someone who reinvigorated my love of potions. Because of him, I started to combine potions into art restoration, much to the delight of my professors and even my dad. 

I had found my calling.

After graduation, my dad was confused but supportive of my choice to join the Veil Jumpers in Arlathan Forest. I spent two years exploring ancient elven ruins for art and artifacts and restoring them to their former glory. I would have stayed longer, but an incident where I chose my friends over a map was determined by the Board of Directors to be the wrong choice, and my Arlathan adventure ended.

Only twenty-five, I had lots of options. Dad was again surprised but supportive when I signed on as assistant to an art historian in Rivain. 

Shathann was a great resource, and I learned so much about Qunari and Rivaini art, but she and I got along as well as she and her daughter did. Only a few years younger than me, Taash and I became fast friends. Isabela suggested to Shathann that I could be both her assistant and a Lord of Fortune who would watch after Taash. I exchanged elven ruins for adventures at sea, searching shipwrecks and dragon lairs to bring artifacts to Shathann and gold to Isabela. 

It was a glorious four years until it wasn’t.

I turned 30 back in the Necropolis, in my childhood room, learning to walk again.

Dad was loving and supportive and being with him and Fred again was everything, but it wasn’t going to last. Dad found me a job restoring artifacts at a prestigious gallery in Minrathous. A calm job. Safe. 

Anything to make my dad happy.

Theresa, don't call me Tessa, Ingellvar went to Minrathous a new person. Blonde hair. Elegant clothes. Sophisticated. The perfect gallery employee.

Bored. Lonely. Unfulfilled.

I tried.

But the second job to meet people my own age led me to Mal Anaris, who connected me with an old friend who shouldn’t have been there.

I met Bellara. Neve. Elek. Varric.

And when it was time for me and Bellara to leave Minrathous and hide, I called on my old potions friend from Salle for help.

Viago was happy to oblige.

This is the story of me. Tessa Volkarin, once Theresa Ingellvar, now Rook de Riva, alongside my sister, Lara de Riva, in Treviso.

The place where I will finally figure out who I am.

The Assassin and The Friend

I don't quite know How to say How I feel Those three words Are said too much They're not enough

AU Rookanis. Friend of Red Jenny Rook who knew Lucanis for two decades before his "death" and subsequent resurrection as a Crow agent with the Veilguard. Slow burn, friends-to-lovers. The romantic tension is high and I love it.

Most folks call them Reid. Lucanis is allowed to call them Adne. And Honey Bee. And sometimes he just calls them Bee.

So, I guess... Lucanis x Bee

So my Rook au is a mess because involves a crossover.

I really like danmei and I'm really into svsss and I have an au which involves SJ and TLJ and their kids.

So in this my Rook is from beyond Amaranthine Sea (Jianghu) and was exploring Thedas before encountering Varric and deciding to help him with the Dread Wolf because he was mostly bored.

For those who don't know: The forehead mark shows that he is a heavenly demon (not a spirit with PTSD), which I think can be cooked into a plot for rookanis pining and angst

The tiny spite is an idea I borrowed from the artist @psin314 go check it out, it's one of the greatest thing in this fandom

WIP Wednesday Thursday

Thank you @mushrooms-x-moss for the tag. So I've been in a weird brain space with writing and haven't done much but I do have a little something from my boxing AU that's slowly coming to life.

"You want me to take Heznekoss offer? To work for the same gym your ex fights under? What was it you always called her?" Zea teased, popping a grape in her mouth as she sat on Davrins counter.

"Ha, the 'gloom howler'. Girl was always sad, nothing made her happy not even the things she said made her happy." Davrin spoke into the fridge pulling out two beers. "Plus, I shit you not, she howled in her sleep. I tried getting her help but she kept saying nothing was wrong with her." Placing one beer on the counter next to her as he searched the draw for a bottle opener. Finally found what he was looking for with a triumphant 'aha.'

"Either way, I'm happy where I am. Antoine and Evka's gym is perfect. I make decent money if I win my fights and…"As Davrin handed her the beer, she grabbed his wrist with one hand and took the beer, placing it down next to her. She pulled him close until he was snug between her thigh. "There's this oh so very handsome worker who I've been dying to get to know." He voice dipped low, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Is that so?" Davrin wrapped his arms around her waist. "I hear he's a hard nut to crack."

"I like a challenge."
