cyclical interest
cyclical interest — a term for having a special interest in and hyperfixation on a particular thing. This can involve having both at the same time, and/or cycling between them. This term is intended to be used to describe how people with ADHD/hyperfixations and autism connect to an interest/concept/etc. — as such, only people with both of those neurodivergencies may use this term. There are no other groups this is exclusive to; anyone may use this term if they have comorbid ADHD and autism or the ability to hyperfixated and experience special interests.
This term is inherently inclusive to those who believe they have these conditions, even if they are not formally diagnosed. We vehemently believe that no one can understand someone's brain better than that person themselves; we will not tolerate any type of anti-self diagnosis rhetoric. Zero.
