THE ESSENCE OF THERMAL, series of audio essays for VZBUĎME VARY, 2025

Three short audio essays – audio walks dedicated to the Thermal Hotel in Karlovy Vary create a performative acoustic object in space. In these audio walks, the artist develops her earlier working methods based on the process of detaching sound (schizophonia) and its subsequent return. Across three chapters, she explores themes of approaching, invisibility, and everydayness.
The audio works combine authentic field recordings with a narrative in which the artist cites selected texts (not only philosophical ones) and mediates them through lived experience. The specific context of the location does not hermetically close the listening experience to other modes of reception. However, the interweaving of past and present, the temporality of a specific place, its acoustics, and the rhythm of walking offers a distinct perceptual experience and an alternative way of sensing.
The work was developed during an artistic residency (summer 2025) organized by the association Vzbuďme Vary and further during the autumn of 2025. The piece was presented to the public as a performative event in November 2025. The audio works remain publicly accessible via QR codes installed in the space.
