Also, can I ask for something with Sevrin and Audrey and something christmas-y (or a Land of the Tales Christmas Adjacent holiday?) Maybe with Christmas recipes because lott food is GOALS. Don't feel pressured to make it canon-compliant or make it canon or even make it. Just have fun!
Someday, I'm definitely gonna figure out a LOTT Christmas-adjacent holiday. For now, it's more winter-y, but it does feature one of my FAVORITE cookies my sister makes!
Winter in the plains and woods of central Avena was, thankfully, not that cold. The path that the caravans took from the coast up, up, all the way to the base of the mountains stayed reasonably clear—though as winter wore on, there were days where they had to dig the wagons—even on the winterized sled runners—free of drifts.
And some days, when it was far too cold to continue, they stopped the wagons and spent the day inside, staying warm and cozy in wagons or snow houses like they made in the northern climes.
It was days like these that Audrey liked to use to experiment with different recipes.
She and her father took turns cooking, but the exact same meals could get pretty boring. Even different combinations of the same ingredients would freshen things up a little.
And luckily for Audrey, she had a willing participant in her practices.
“Try this,” she told Sevrin, pushing a cookie into his hands.
He obediently took a bite, eyes widening in appreciation. It was just the two of them in her wagon—her father was out looking after the horses, making sure the others had enough firewood. Such was the lot of the head caravaner.
“This is good,” Sevrin said, swallowing his bite. “Melty. What are those spices?”
“Cinnamon and nutmeg,” Audrey said with a grin. “Shipped from the Far West. I rolled the cookies in that and sugar.”
Sevrin whistled. “No wonder they’re good. Um, how does this improve your meal-making abilities?”
“It doesn’t,” Audrey admitted. “I just wanted to make something sweet and warm, with all this cold. And I like having you around as a taste tester.”
Her smile was answered in kind, and suddenly the chill seeping through the walls didn’t seem too bad. “I like being around you, too.”
