okay so. in the episode i just watched rossiu brings up kamina’s “sacrifice” and. it got me thinking. this isn’t the first time a characters called what happened a sacrifice but like. was it a sacrifice?
no one was expecting kamina to die. sure SOMEONE would almost definitely die, but never kamina, surely. kamina himself wasn’t expecting to be attacked like that, he had wanted to live and see the future – he just realized that his wound was fatal and accepted it, and did what he could with the last of his strength
which is a different type of sacrifice, sure. but not the kind rossiu seemed to be talking about, saying that in some ways, maybe kamina’s death was a “good” thing. by the laws of the universe (/writing) he needed to be the one to die for being simon’s anchor, but his death isn’t what won them the battle. they won because he got back up again, even while on death’s door
wouldn’t it be fun if simon had some grief stricken emotions about everyone calling kaminas death a sacrifice (:
GODDDD i wonder if the people that call it that are saying it because some part of them thought thered be Hope
That if Kamina Hadnt used the last of his strength to push through to ensure victory, that maybe he couldve been saved, maybe there couldve been something, Anything to be done. And that in that way by choosing to push through, he chose to sacrifice himself.
Its probably easier to think about it that way for some. To think that his death was necessary. That it wasnt the sensless death of a young man leading a charge even though he shouldve had his whole life ahead of him. But a sacrifice towards the goal of victory and freedom.
I think for Rossiu it also shows his attempts to be a governmental figure, and his slide towards being unintentionally more like Magin. The lives taken during the war were Sacrifices, there to pave their way towards a better life like what they have now
But then theres Simon. Where no matter whos calling Kaminas death a sacrifice and for what reason, thats still his bro. And everyone is basically saying Kamina was a sacrifice for his sake, when he never asked for it. A sacrifice to make him grit his teeth. A sacrifice to shape him into who he is.
He never wanted this
