“So, I’ve been made aware that we have a new neighbor in the nearby jungle biome, friends, and I think we should drop by with a housewarming gift of a basket of fruit and muffins.” Joe Hills said, recording his podcast as he always did by his giant pinball machine. He held the tiny microphone he used to record with in one hand and his communicator, which the microphone was attached to, in the other.
“Now, listeners, housewarming gifts are both timeless and excruciatingly annoying. I want to straddle that line, and also not scare off Etho, as he can be skittish. Now, I can hear you asking yourselves, Joe, how do you toe such a delicate line? Well, listeners, you can’t see this because you can only listen and not watch, but if you caught my most recent guest crafting episode with ZombieCleo, you may remember that I made a basket out of dried kelp and some of my own hair. This, listeners, is what we are going to use to house the fruit and muffins.”
Joe cleared his throat and considered the basket of goodies in front of him. “Now, in order to keep it interesting and create unique and creative problems for myself, I will be describing the fruit and muffins in my best Canadian accent, as to accustom myself to Etho’s way of life and also so the author doesn’t have to think of something more creative!” Joe cleared his throat again and started talking in a Canadian accent. “So, we have bran muffins, gluten free muffins, and chocolate chip muffins, as I wasn’t quite sure what Etho would like. In terms of fruit, Minecraft offers very little. So I illegally snuck in as much modded fruit as I could find on the dark web! I’m talking oranges, bananas, dragonfruit. Etho seems like a scary guy, so scary fruit would be right up his alley. All that’s left now is to go deliver it to him!”
Joe paused the recording and put the recording equipment in his pocket. He took off towards Etho’s jungle, basket in hand and a friendly smile already on his face.
Luckily for him, Etho was out on a little cleared-out island, looking at a monstrosity of redstone. Joe hit record again, with the microphone hidden in his pocket, and landed on the ground right behind Etho.
“Howdy Etho, or should I say neighbor!” Joe waved.
“Oh hey Joe.” Etho smiled back at him, but his eyes were a little unfocused, probably thinking about redstone. “Or should I say Joebor. Joe-neighbor. Does that work?”
“Totally!” Joe lied. “Well, I figured since we are neighbors now, I should get you a house-warming gift!” Joe held out the basket.
“Oh thank you!” Etho took the basket and examined it. “Is this handmade?”
“Yep!” Joe was thrilled that Etho had noticed. “Woven with dried kelp and a special substance.” Etho raised a suspicious eyebrow at Joe but said nothing. “Now, Etho, if I may ask, why did you move out of Bdubs’ basement? Everyone’s dying to know!”
“Well, I had a prophetic dream about a redstone contraption, and then I woke up to my pet pufferfish killing me in my sleep.” Etho sighed. “Kinda was the last straw- I’m not meant to be a tenant. I wanted my own land, and this place is perfect for what I need. So I packed up, told my pufferfish I was going out for milk, and left.”
“Oh, so sad about your pufferfish!” Joe replied.
“I mean, I’m sure he’ll be fine.” Etho said, flapping a hand. “Anyway, nice talking to you Joe, but I gotta get back to this redstone stuff. See you around!”
Joe watched Etho head back to his redstone contraption, and he slowly brought the tiny microphone out of his pocket and back up to his mouth.
“Hear that, listeners? Looks like we got us a mission!”
——
“Psssshh, Etho!”
Etho jerked awake with a gasp, grimacing with pain, as he’d fallen asleep against a shulker box. Joe was standing above him, smiling and holding a bucket.
“I got your pufferfish for you! Here you go!”
Joe was smiling so big and looked so happy, and as Etho really had just woken up, he had no choice but to take the bucket of water and previously abandoned pufferfish.
“Thanks Joe.”
“You are so welcome! See you around, neighbor!” Joe took off, tiny microphone already out and jabbering away. Etho looked down at the pufferfish, who was giving him a very sour look indeed.

kramergirl: Little Thursday thoughts as I just got some pics back from the amazing @joshbeech…. “When something is really funny you’re going to laugh again”. I remember that quote from one of my favorite movies and I often thought of that when I was in my hard year. “U will laugh again”…when it’s really funny you will and pieces of you will start to find joy as each day passes. Give yourself grace. 🖤
