im asking you b/c you seem like someone who might know. do you have any idea where or how to find reference images for the guns used in Terror? or even just what kind of guns they are? frankly the show is too dark for me to see details but i want to draw them!!

I’m ashamed to say I don’t know very much about guns because despite liking the terror marines, I’m not a very gunny person haha. So I don’t have any idea about the exact models but I can tell you that the guns we see in the show are (or should be) of the percussion lock variety that flint lock evolved into in 1820s and then proceeded to replace it. What we mostly see are percussion muskets (also called the brown bess) and percussion double barrel shotguns. I remember there’s also a pistol, which I’m guessing is just called a percussion pistol too, I’ve only really looked at the marines’ guns but not very deeply. 

When searching for references, I often just go with anything of close resemblance to the show ones that’s from the 1840s.

The closest resemblance I can find with a quick google, although I don’t think it’s long enough. Also I’d like to add that the length of these guns is described as “almost one pilk” in my brain:

And the shotgun and the closest resemblance. The ones in the show are very short and chunky with small pointy flints and a lumpy bit at the grip. Excuse my bad gun terminology.

Thank you! I just used the airbrush tool in clip studio paint. The tool property was droplet.

i think my biggest Terror shame is that. while i like him in the show i dont Care or Think abt James Fitzjames AT ALL past whats presented in series. which can make being in the fandom a little alienating not gonna lie. maybe i only like Gibson and Hodgson so much because i dont have exposure fatigue like for other characters. who knows.

Oh damn, I know exactly how you feel!! Honestly when I first looked into the terror fandom I was surprised to see so many people liking the same 5 characters because I was thinking “wow there’s so many characters in this show that are all so likeable, I’m sure there’ll be a lot of variety!” I never really took to Crozier or Fitzjames, or most of the other more popular characters for some reason. Idk, I like the usual good ones like Goodsir and Jopson of course but I don’t really think about them. 

Guess I just always said mutineers & minor character rights. Hickey was my absolute favourite the first month or so but then my eyes were cranked open by Kathie to my smol lobster boy and then it was just love at first sight. Well not really, I’d noticed him before and even though Kathie wants to take the full credit, I’d meant to look into this weird tiny background marine before. Anyway. Welcome to the here we love minor characters camp, someone’s gotta do it and by god we’ll do so proudly.

George’s face is hot as he half-stumbles down the street, though whether it is from the alcohol, or from Henry’s strong arm around his waist, he can’t be sure. Not that he cares, particularly; his head is tingling in a pleasing Champagne bubbles sort of way and Henry… Henry is singing.

He hasn’t heard Henry sing in months, not since long before those winters, and to hear it again sends thrilling warmth through George’s entire body. Henry, who has certainly been drinking just as much as George has, and whose tolerance is nowhere near as stout as he thinks it is, is no singer. The tune is wobbly, the words less than distinct – and, George is certain, not correct – but there’s such an infectious contentment under the melody that it sounds to George like one of the most beautiful things he has ever heard.

Henry finishes his song and sighs, happily. His hand grips tighter around George’s waist and he leans his head against him as they walk. In his affection, George can’t help himself. He stops.

“Love?”

George says nothing, just tugs Henry down into a shadowed, tree-covered spot off their path; Henry makes a quizzical noise, but George merely pulls forward, until they are both hidden from any person who might be making their way down even this quiet street. He steps into Henry, catching him close, so that they are face to face, his breath warm on his cheek. It is not a moment before George’s hand winds into Henry’s hair and he brings him in to a kiss.

They have done this so often before, gently, in quiet, hidden places, with abandon in George’s rooms, quickly, slowly, hard and delicate and always, always with love. Tonight, with the rough bark of a tree pressed against George’s back, and Henry’s thigh between his legs, it feels like the first time all over again. He breaks the kiss, breathing heavily, lets his palms hold Henry’s face between them.

“I love you,” he whispers, his lips brushing against Henry’s with every syllable. He can feel the smile that answers, and does not need to hear it to know that Henry responds the same. His hands roam lower, tracing the line of Henry’s neck, down to rest on his chest, fingers playing over the buttons there. He leans forward again, presses a kiss, a light and gentle bite to the corner of Henry’s mouth, and lowers, following the path down to press another at the edge of his jaw, and lower further still. They are close enough that he can feel the slight hitch of Henry’s breath, the quickening of his pulse when George sucks a small mark to the curve of his neck, just below where it might be covered in his shirt. He makes a low noise, quiet, so quiet that only Henry might hear it.

Henry responds with a low roll of his hips and a small chuckle that sends reverberations through his whole body.

George kisses him again.
