The first recorded mention of blood auracite is noted within the records of the archives of the Nald'thal temple, strictly forbidden to anyone but the leadership of the temple, even the royalty of Ul'dah are often required to go through a myriad of bureaucratic procedures before being allowed access, under the direct supervision of temple leadership.
What is known is the location of a crypt unearthed about 150 years ago, before the fall of Dalamund. From the excavation in the deepest depths beneath the Sagolii desert, a large and seemingly organic formation of rock had been noted in the depths of the cavern, the surrounding room illuminated by the pulsating crystal; marked by organic winding coils of what appeared to be blood veins.
Excavators who approached or made contact with the crystal reported feelings of fatigue, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, and confusion. All symptoms are related to low blood pressure or even more disturbing, blood loss. For this reason, further probes or research into the crystal were promptly halted and the caverns sealed as there were no methods to safely relocate such a large mass without great risk to all involved.
The Nald'thal temples archives have kept all records of this discovery under complete secrecy still to this day. Only the hearsay and rumors from those excavators involved bled into the public, and over the decades, rumors turned and become no more than urban legends to the populace. No further inquiries have been made since.
Though the last mention of this discovery came through a notice about a breach of the caverns by an unknown entity 50 years after the initial discovery. A brief examination of the area saw no sign of physical forced entry, but there was notable damage and missing remnants of the crystal. An investigation was quietly conducted to not further alert anyone about the presence of the caverns, but any trails or leads they had ran cold and the investigations ceased. Though authorities have been made aware to keep on the lookout for any strange magics that may have been sourced from this crystal.
This was a discovery of a matter known as ‘blood auracite, said to be derived from the auracite of the High Seraph. The singular rock seemed to have traversed the world and found itself within what is now the Sagolli desert. This appeared to be before the Calamity of fire, where it was to promptly buried by the destruction.
Proper examinations would conclude blood auracite is no different in its underlying properties to standard auracite though it seems to have taken on additional properties from what is surmised to be the essence of voidsent, or more specifically the crystal seems to pulsate with organic veins formations filled voidsent blood.
How exactly the stone came into contact with such corruption is still unknown. Perhaps studying between the events from the third into the fourth umbral calamity could have further clues
Theoretically, a single individual trying to harness the entirety of the auracite could face self-annihilation, hence caution is to be taken. Only a small chunk should suffice to make use of its potential.
With a small fragment close to one's person, one could feel a warmth course through their body, their blood compelled towards the crystal. Even with this small fragment, the living could not properly wield the aurcaite, as constant exposure would find their very blood steadily drained and evaporated into the crystal until they were deceased.
The only ones seemingly immune to this effect are voidsent themselves, as their blood shares the same properties. With this in mind, the living could wield the auracite would they take on any sort of void corruption and risk transformation, or perhaps circumvent the toll on the user by an offering of another's essence to feed the stone.
The stone seems to grant the wielder the capacity to manipulate the very aether concentrated on others' blood. So there solves the stone's conundrum, any living wielder of blood aurcaite is on a constant search to feed the stone to preserve their own lives and in exchange for the power it offers. These horrific details aside, the toll is taken on one's mental state when constant exposure is yet to remain known. Yet from here we have surmised a whole new field of magic, hemomancy or blood magic.
Obviously such methods are entirely forbidden in any capacity. Witnesses of such magics would be promptly compelled to alert the authoeries. That is to say if they survive the encounter.
With fragments of blood auracite now out in the world, there is no telling how many have succumb to the stones and continue to weild its might against the innocent. Though given the toll the stone takes upon its user and the singular source of blood auracite under surveillance, there has been no noted epidemic of such magic, though authorities are always ever vigilant in the mean time.
It is entirely possibly for one's stone to be passed on, as there is no meaingfuly way to reproduce more variations of blood auracite at this time. It is noted imbibing a concotion derived from voidsent blood could temporarily stave off the stone's toll on the user, though such a solution is not easily brewed given the nessceity of such a rare ingredient.
Wielders could store a certain amount of essence in the stone before it eventually draw upon the wielder itself, making it a delicate balance of resource management. It is ill advised to make this one’s sole method of offense and should be a last resort.
With all this is mind, it is a field a magic only the most dedicated and resourceful could ever take on, let alone having the fortune (or misfortune) of coming into possession of blood auracite.
