TRIGGER WARNING: HONOUR KILLINGS
116 women have been killed in just the past four months in Pakistan's KPK province alone. Mind you these are always only the reported cases. Many cases don't even get reported. human rights defenders estimate that around 1000 women are murdered in the name of honour every year.
People don't really grasp the depth of hatred for women that exist in countries like Pakistan, not even majority of women living here. Everybody is so fucking desensitized to femicide that women's lives are mere numbers to them. I remember the first time I heard about Qandeel baloch I was extremely shocked and left disturbed for many days. I couldn't believe how someone could do this to their own family member, their own daughter but growing up, I realised how actually common it is. There's hardly a day without a headline about a man killing his own daughter, sister, wife or mother justifying it with the most absurd excuses: cooking meal a little late, posting her pictures on social media, saying "mera jism meri marzi" (My body, my choice),not wearing a veil and letting her hair breathe, dancing freely, demanding her right to inheritance, giving birth to a girl child, speaking to a man, clapping and singing infront of a man, getting married to someone by her own choice, refusing to marry at all or simply being born a woman. Victims of harassement and rape are killed in the name of honour. But nobody feels angry or shocked. They scroll past this news like it's same as seeing some ad they've become bored of.
