     the words were hard to hear. hard to accept. as of late, it’s grown harder and harder to see himself in a positive light, to find the good behind his actions. he’s failed so many people. he’s lost, time and time again. not a day goes by that fear doesn’t seize his heart. so how can she say that he was so much more than he believed? surely… nobody knew sora better than sora! right? and he knew that sora was just a made - up hero. the bravery / strength / wisdom came from the people who stood by his side, from the friends of the heart. the sora who relied on others was unmatched, a spectacle to behold! but the sora of now… he was nothing more than a boy riddled with guilt and crushed by responsibility and drowning in homesickness. he was tired. he was so tired.      ❛  you think so?  ❜ the fatigue rings clear but even so he keeps his voice light, carefree. a force of habit / second - nature. it’s muscle memory at this point ; put on a smile, laugh, continue onwards even though you’re tired! ❛  sorry… i don’t really see it, hehe! but i guess i can take your word for it.  ❜

   the  world  at  worst  is  violent.  we  know  it  like  it’s  natural  law,  and  never  pretend  it’s  been  any  different.  this,  however,  should  never  feel  like  it  applies  to  the  body,  prompto  feels:  violence  he’s  not  quite  sure  is  or  isn’t  there,  that  could  be———  𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫  𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫.

   fear  of  yourself.  never  for  yourself,  though:  for  the  other.  now,  enter  his  friends.  it’s  scary  to  not  know  what  the  fabricated  body  is  capable  of,  or  that  it's  a  threat,  as  much  as  they  deny  it.  this  isn’t  how  natural  law  is  supposed  to  be.  this  isn’t  how  he  should  be.

   prompto  supposes  that,  by  the  knot  in  his  throat,  he’s  not  all  bad.  not  unfeeling,  at  least.  he’s  at  loss,  of  course,  because  here  she  is,  telling  him  there’s  more  to  what  he  thought  there  was:  guilt  of  what  hasn’t  even  happened.

   she’s  right.  he’s  done  nothing  wrong.

   admitting  impotence  hurts.  admitting  desire  hurts.  and  he  knows  the  lengths  he  could  and  will  go  for  its  preservation,  even  the  illusion  of  it.  aurelia  shouldn’t  have  to  see  the  way  his  features  twist,  or  know  her  single  sentence  could  be  so  overwhelming.

   awareness  had  to  come  with  a  cost;  a  ringing  on  his  ears,  a  cold  rush  that’s  close  to  irrelevant,  usually  followed  by  a  heightened  pressure  on  his  chest.  his  back  slides  down  the  wall,  breathing  irregularly  if  even  barely.  𝘁𝗵𝗲  𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁’𝘀  𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆  𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻,  but  this  is  not  about  stating  the  obvious.  he  doesn’t  tell  her  a  single  word  about  how  her  weight  on  his  shoulder  just  grounded  him  to  the  grime  underneath.

   she’s  close.  close  enough  to  be  a  moonlight  hallucination,  close  enough  to  be  real.

   with  aurelia  sitting  next  to  him,  it’s  easy  for  leon  to  cradle  one  of  her  hands  with  his  under  the  pretense  of———  he  can’t  come  up  with  an  excuse.  he  holds  it  to  simply  hold,  keep  close,

       “   hmm   --   ?   ”   curiosity is a rare look on the detective.   more often than not,  he’s the one who knows how events will unfold,  with others playing into his whims.   in this case,  however   ...   “   well,  well !   i definitely didn’t account for this !   ”   his tone rings pleasant,  excitement clear at having a new line of possibilities to explore.   “   so,  you say you were attacked ?   when,  where,  and did you recognise the attacker ?   ”

   𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞,  𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬  𝐚𝐧  𝐚𝐝𝐚  𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭  𝐜𝐚𝐧  𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲.  somewhere,  there’s  an  ada  say  it  back  and  not  mean  it,  she’s  sure.  there  is  safety  to  be  found  in  dismissal  after  all.  for  both  of  them.  however:  this  is  an  instance  of  corruption.  thinking  of  excuses  to  postpone  really  answering,  medicating  the  gauze  and  pressing  it  around  aurelia’s  raw  arm.  entertaining  thought  experiments  are  saved  for  after  sabotaging  umbrella’s  own.

   we  know  the  story.

   girl  consumes.  girl  survives.  it’s  threatening.  there  should  be  room  for  others  in  the  narrative,  one  figures,  but  the  other  side  isn’t  so  easy  to  open.
