Alice Burdeu

Place: Winner

The moment that Alice walked out of the car in the first episode, I think everyone knew damn well that she was going to run away with the competition. Alice just had all of the bits and things needed to be a model (besides the confidence). She had a great renaissance painting look to her, her 6’1 stance made her a statue compared to the other girls, and despite her very thin body, she still had a healthy diet so there is no eating problems involved. Even though she had the look, Alice still had the ability to model her ass off. She just had a natural talent for moving in front of the camera. You can give her a trash can full of dead flies and she would still sell it as some expensive brand. She just had an effortless talent in front of the camera. She could be expensive and sexy (Tigerlily, Spies) to simple pretty (Natural, Hollywood) to even commercial (Car), it all came so easily to her. Watching her effortlessly move on set was a delight to watch as well, her face may be dead in some shots but it still works for me. I think it’s her natural expression but the sorrow in her eyes makes the shot light up to me more. It’s a shock to me that in the weeks coming up to the finale, she was able to change her expression to something more fierce and exciting since she was becoming a bit one note in terms of expression. She also was very versatile when it came to the batshit briefs and challenges given to the girls. I don’t know if this was me, but I was kinda surprised at how good her walk was. I never expected the willowed girl to do so well but watching her floating practically on runway was a delight and it doesn’t shock me that she was so successful after the show when it came to runway. My biggest issue with Alice would be her confidence. She had a lack of confidence due to her lanky body and just overall moodiness, which was why it was nice to see her grow with confidence over time into her own butterfly. I would argue that it didn’t really hinder her since she was going to be mostly a high fashion girl instead of commercial, weird considering I would argue that this cast has the most commercial girls of the bunch. She just was the full package this cycle and if it weren’t for her and her win, I bet that this series would die out after the third cycle. Overall, I would count on Alice for being the reason why this series lasted as long as it did. She was one of the best early winner in any series, she was able to balance out every brief given to her and excel in every photoshoot and runway given to her. She may struggle with the obvious problem of commercial appeal but she was a high fashion girl through and through so who cares about commercial appeal? Maureen is not a high fashion girl whatsoever but she still excelled at commercial, there’s nothing wrong with being one of the other. It makes sense that she would become one of the most successful girls from the NTM series, she was just the full package and I was happy to see her succeed in the end.

Stephanie Hart

Place: Runner up

Steph H is just a maddening case to me of favoritism and how it almost kills a series. I talked about this in Eboni’s ranking but when you push someone who clearly doesn’t want it or just not worthy of the package, you’re just going to end up either killing their career or your own. Steph H is the latter where I just don’t see her doing anything after the show. I’ll focus on some of her positives though. Obviously, she’s young (she’s the youngest at 16) so color me surprise when Steph H actually didn’t come off as some inexperience mall chick. During the first half of the competition, she was fairly strong. I wouldn’t say she was the same level as my actual top 4 but compared to the weaker second half, she held her own. She did well in the group shot, her swimwear was unexpectedly seductive (plus one of her best), and ignoring her terrible beauty shot, she had a great runway walk in the beginning and did well in the car photoshoot. However, things just went downhill from there. I never understood her look, she looked so basic and much younger than she actually was, so she would never do the seductive sexy photoshoots at all, so she already failed at that (the last 2 weeks). Another factor to this is just Steph’s attitude after the 5th week. I don’t know if it was Steph H’s nerves or her feeling worse after everyone in the house turned on her and Paloma but she just sucked when it came to the second half. Her walk just got worse and worse and so did her photo quality. She would stiffen up on set or give up halfway through, resulting in lazy looking lazy and a dead face. Yet, she kept getting pushed by the judges more and more. I would understand the first 2 weeks of this (her stiff avant and nightmare fuel mothers-daughters) because of the much weaker girls left over but by the 8th week, where there’s been no improvement and a dwindling runway walk, that really should’ve lead the judges into realizing “hey wait, let’s get her out of here!”. That takes me to my next point, the agonizing favoritism for Steph H from the host Jodhi. Now, this has been commented on so many times by many people so I don’t feel like repeating myself’. But to sum it up, Steph Ho only made it so far to the finale because the host’s creepy obsession for her due to her age and look. It was just creepy to watch Jodhi, a 30 something woman, lust over recently 16 Steph, who still looked like a middle schooler. If Jodhi actually got her way and got Steph the win, I would reckon that the show would probably be considered one of the biggest jokes in reality TV history. I want to like Steph H, she seemed like a sweet girl and she proved at times that she could be a decent model, but I could only see her as a commercial girl. She had no versatility, her performance was getting worse and worse, and comparing her look to other girls like Jordan and Alice, it’s a joke that she even made it to the live finale and only got votes from the judges who creamed over her personality and look. I felt bad for Steph H for the bullying she got after the show and really, she should’ve been cut while they had the chance instead of making her think she could model when she would be caught after the C4 premiere being a waiter while Alice was booking shows left and right. Shame on Jodhi, just shame.

Jordan Loukas

Place: 3rd Place

Jordan, like Alice, just stood out to me in terms of looks on the first episode. Her cat-like features just made her one out of the crowd and she had a good body for swimwear. She was one of the shortest girls of the group but that didn’t seem to fuck her over considering she never really looked her height to me. However, she was inconsistent for me, unlike Alice who was constantly great and Steph H with her downfall by the second half. She started off well, with her ok group shot and frankly beautiful Tigerlily, which earned her a FCO from the judges and finally getting in their good graces since she was one of their least favorites. However, after her good start, she started to slide off a bit for me from week 3-6. Her natural beauty was treated way too harshly by the fans and the judges but it’s still a step down, although her runway, avant, and car are fine. I wouldn’t say it’s her best but she clearly made a good effort to it. However, by the end of her trip, she finally seem to get her shit together to make some of her best efforts and one of my personal favorites of the cycle. Her mother daughter shot is still utter trash but it finally got her a FCO from me but her 2 other shots, spies and Mary Poppins, is just beautiful. I still defend her Mary Poppins shot since it’s gained a lot of hate the past few years but it’s just so odd it’s great to me. She did struggle with her emotions in underwear shot, which reminded me more of a soap opera frame more than anything. However, she ended off things with a bang with her pretty Hollywood shot, which should’ve justified her making it to the finale over Steph H, who’s just been on a downfall into the ground. I can’t really comment much on her walk since compared to Alice, it was just ok. She had a lot of personality and swag to her walk but it could be too much for a lot of people. My problem with her is that she was more of an actress more than anything. As a model, she’s fine but considering the challenges she would have to face (being the shortest of the group), she wouldn’t have a lot of success as a model. Still, Jordan was one of my favorite personalities of the group! She was super sweet, also a sassy bitch and making the cycle her bitch in terms of that, no wonder she won personality of the cycle from the live finale. I would love to see more of Jordan in the finale and she would be an easy pick for my top 2, even if Alice was there

Anika Salerno

Place: 4th Place

Anika seemed to be the most boring girl of the group according to a lot of people which I’ve never felt to be true at all. Her look was basic on film but I really loved her personality. She was just a sweet apple pie who was in for a fun ride (also very professional), which is weird considering how much of a badass she would look on film. Her first photo was very unimpressive though, she looked so much worse than she actually did. However, she kinda started dominating right after her awful start. This would start off her SCO placements and for the few first weeks, was the only contender for Alice’s place. Her Tigerlily was lovely, Natural Beauty really showcases how her basic look could be elevated in photo, and she finally took Alice’s reign of FCOs in the runway photoshoot. Despite her car shot being one of the few disappointments in her strong portfolio, she was still able to bounce back with her sexy avant shot. However, at that point, she just went down for me honestly. Her mother-daughter shot was quite cute but as a model photo, it’s one of the worst I’ve seen. I also have grown to dislike her spy shot due to the uncomfortable posing and her Mary Poppins, which I believe to be sabotaged. She did end things off well with her seductive and simple emotion shot but in a week as weak as that, is that really a good thing? My biggest problem with Anika was mostly her body positioning. It was often too stiff or scared, as seen in her Tigerlily with the random arms in the air and her car shot, where she spread herself too far, making herself look shorter. However, she knew how to model that pretty face of hers for sure! She also had an impressive runway walk and never seem to let her big breasts be an issue for the stylists since she was able to hide it well at many points. Overall, Anika deserves some more love from people. She may have a very basic look but honestly, she was able to turn it out on photo alongside her amazing attitude with anything. LA may not be her market but I would love to see more of her!

Paloma Rodriguez

Place: 5th Place

Let’s be honest, this cycle would not be nearly as entertaining as it without Paloma. She made the cycle her bitch in terms of entertainment. She had a strong personality, a shitty attitude that made a lot of value for entertainment and hell for everyone else, and an overall bonkers way of approaching things. It was obvious and she made it very clear that she was suffering from a lot of mental issues during her time on the show so take her personality during her time here with a grain of salt (a lot of salt). She did seem down a lot of the time but she still kept up a good attitude by the end. As for modeling skills, she was one of the wackiest of the bunch. There really was no middling for Paloma, she was either amazing or god awful. Her best shots would definitely be her group, Tigerlily, Car, and Mary Poppins were all her best, where her wacky crazy modeling was able to shine in the best way possible. However, her crap photos were really crap. I still hate her mother-daughter with a burning passion, but her runway, spies, and natural beauty are one of the worst of the week, where the wacky poses just don’t work at all. Her only middle performance to me would be her avant shot, which had a great face but a pretty bad body. My main problem with Paloma is just how crazy she could be with her modeling. She had a very ANTM fierce overdosing problem to her, thus making the shots way too over the top or dramatic. Sometimes, it works and other times, it just doesn’t. I often prefer the shots where there’s a subtle artistic value to it more than anything so I’ve never loved that type of modeling. However, credit when credit is due, Paloma was able to kick ass when she was able to balance out her unique beauty with her badass posing. I really like her look, she had a pretty emo goth look to her and the long hair looks much better on her than the short makeover given to her. Her runway was also filled with her personality, though I do think it was way too over-exaggerated for my taste. If Paloma wasn’t casted, this cycle would be so fucking boring so I’m happy that Paloma made it as far as she did.

Danica Brown

Place: 6th Place

Average: 7.14

Look, I don’t even know how Danica even ended up in the final cast since even the judges seem to hate her. She just had such a bland look that never translated well to camera. Her body wasn’t impressive either and often looked thicker than it does on camera. My big issue with her is just how so inexperienced she looks in person and on photo. She had one good shot with her Tigerlily mostly because she was able to angle her face well and do a decent body pose but everything else was a mess. She doesn’t know the angles of her face at all and often has a pained or blank expression on her face. Her body was also a major problem for me. She just didn’t know how to pose at all. It often looked clumsy or stiff as a board, as if she was taken in motion rather than in pose (in a bad way). Her walk was also insanely overhyped alongside it. I know the judges and the producers were trying to give Danica a storyline with her “amazing” walk only for the timid and shy Alice to bring her down (which is just cruel) but her walk was as bad as her photographing ability. It was way too stompy and not enough memorability to me. It just seemed like Danica was casted as a joke, she didn’t have the look of a model and was the punching bag for the judges most of the time. Yet, they dragged her to the top 6 just for their amusement or just making her suffer more. I do think Danica ended on a bit of a high note with her meh mothers-daughter but at that point, she had the worst average alongside the worst look and walk. It seemed like Danica was a joke to the judges and for the viewers to laugh at, which is a shame since she did seem very determined despite her major flaws. Thank fuck she got mercy killed at the end though.

Sophie Wittingslow

Place: 7th Place

Average: 6.67

Sophie is the perfect example of being a model noun without being the verb. I loved her look, the freckles with the overly long face just looked amazing. She also had a sick body to kick it off as well (those legs!) which is why it was so disappointing to see her fail in the photoshoots. I see a lot of praise for Sophie due to her look and everyone saying that she was the only one to beat Alice but people, am we seeing the same thing? She started off a mess with her laughably bad group shot photo before stepping it up with the overrated Tigerlily. She did step it with her stunning beauty shot and the decent runway photo (it’s grown on me) but then she just went back down with her horrible cars shot, which unfairly got her a high placement from the judges. She did go back to good with her artistic avant shot but it was an end to a very inconsistent journey for me to rank. She just seemed very bored and didn’t know how to model her face when it came to the sets. Sophie often had a snarl in many of her photos alongside a bad case of the open mouth. She did know how to model her body though so we would get a lot of great poses from her (ignoring that car mess). I expected a lot more from Sophie, everyone hyped her up to be one of the best of the cycle but I came in disappointed. She just didn’t seem to know what she was doing half the time and couldn’t seem to close her mouth. Sophie is quite overrated but I still enjoyed her look a bunch!

(Also adding this here, apparently she’s been missing alongside her son for the past 2 years now, I don’t know how tf I ended up here but yeah)
