The reign of Habsburg in Austria lasted around 650 years and followed the rule of the Babenberg dynasty.
After Friedrich II. of Babenberg died at the Battle of Leitha river 1246, there was chaos and many rulers tried to make "Austria" their own: the HRE, Bohemia, Hungary,...
Friedrich's sister Margarete was an important figure during this time and she married Ottokar II. Premysl of Bohemia after he was chosen to be the next duke of Austria. However, after Rudolf I. of Habsburg became the next emperor of the HRE after the so called interregnum period those two got caught up in a conflict over the Austrian lands. It was the Battle of Marchfeld (Dürnkrut & Jedenspeigen) in 1278 which was and still is considered as one of the biggest medieval battles between knights and it was Rudolf I. of Habsburg that won the battle. This victory marks the beginning of the rule of Habsburg over Austria until the fall of the monarchy after WW1 in 1918.
For Roderich, this marks the start of a new beginning. From now on his rulers were not only responsible for him but the entire HRE and Vienna became the residence city of the new dynasty.
For him it didn't only mean luxury or an elevated status and importance. He already was considered one of the most important and wealthy duchies during the Babenberg time. But now he had to hold up a mask. He was the new homeland of the emperors, he had responsibility and a reputation to uphold. Especially after the Privilegium Maius, a series of faked documents ordered by Rudolf IV to elevate Austria from a duchy to an archduchy. (in contrast to the legal Privilegium Minus that changed Austria from a march to a duchy)
At this point, I think Roderich couldn't even tell who he really was anymore: where his mask began or ended and where the authentic, real Roderich could shine through. The inner conflict, the crisis of his own identity and the way he viewed himself is something he will carry around for centuries. And in the 19th-20th century this century old inner conflict would come back with such a force he could never have expected.

I already mentioned Roderich's identity crisis and the amount of pressure that was put on him in the past when he was still a monarchy. But today things would be different. Roderich, as a person, is more free. Free from the rigid corset of a life he lived before. Sure, he definitely misses the luxury that came with it but it's the freedom (to a certain extend) that might be like a breath of fresh air. No one would force a mask upon him. Roderich can let go, break free from unhealthy behaviours he might have developed over the years and just be. Maybe the Roderich of the late 20th/21st century is the truest to himself he has ever been. Who knows?
