You know what I wish I saw more in post-apocalyptic movies/books? People actually living off the land. Not just fighting over food and resources. Because let’s face it: it’s not the people who live in the middle of cities that are going to survive, but the farmers, the hunters, the foragers. People who actually have skill where they can keep themselves alive with minimal contact with humans.
I want to see people using animal pelts for blankets and clothes, I want to see people making their own moccasins and gloves, and making jerky for the winter
I want to see people healing infected wounds with a plantain weed poultice, eating the inner bark out of pine trees, and curing their colds with yarrow.
Native Americans were surviving fine for thousands of years living off the land in that manner. I know people who could disappear into the woods and never be seen again, yet live perfectly good lives roughing it.
Something that upsets me about TV, and film, and even books, is that if we want a happy ending or happy story in general for a disabled person. If we want to see them have any success. Then something magical happens and they aren't disabled anymore. Finally they're "normal" *big gasps and cheers* and honestly. That's really fucked up.
Why is it die and go knowing you teached a non disabled person a "valuable lesson" or congrats you're one of us now and can have good things! As though we weren't deserving of the good things or capable of having or achieving them beforehand.
Like. That is so toxic. And wrong. We aren't here to make you feel better about yourself. Would I love to be able to walk? Fucking sure. But I can do a lot of things better than a lot of my able bodied friends cause they're things I chose to pursue. Not despite or because of my disability but because I'm a fucking person with goals and motivations.
I want things like everyone else. I do the same things I just maybe do them differently.
I sing, and I dance, I write, and I fuck. I dream, I read, I listen to music, and I'm my friends' go to person whenever they need advice on anything in life. I'm fucking funny and I have a great sense of style. I can cook like a fucking boss, and I make up my own recipes all the time, and cook for huge groups of people whenever I can because I love cooking so much. I love seeing people's faces light up when they eat my food. And when I love people I love them with all of me whether it's friends, or romantic, or the family I choose because family isn't always blood. I'm a person.
We can have good things. We can create and do good things now. We always have. We are people. Write us as people. Write us the way you would write anyone else.
Stop using our suffering and our struggles to make yourself feel better. Be better.
im like 250k words into this fanfic series and one character doesn’t even know the other is GAY now THATS what a real slowburn is
Just FYI, if you add a major tag to your fic, you need to make an author’s note at the beginning of the chapter to bring attention to it. Not everyone will read all the tags again when they return to your fic.
Bulbous is not a sexy word
Listen, if you reply to my review I will absolutely leave you a novel of a review on your next chapter.
